COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mysterium Verum. Scots Gone Wild marks the initial offering from Real Ale Brewing Company in the world of sour beers. Real Heavy, our strong scotch ale, was aged for 6 months in American oak barrels, during which time it underwent a dramatic refermentation due to the presence of a very special cocktail of wild yeast and bacteria. The end result is a dry, cherry-pie sour, with a subtle oak character and a bold tartness. OG: 20˚P

Tap. Reddish brown in color, whitish head, and slightly murky. The smell is wood, oak, tart, cherry, fruits, brandy, toffee, and lemons. The taste is a lot cherry, oak, tart, funk, and good.

Not usually one to like funked out styles with higher ABV, but this is AMAZING. Damn I wish I had more. Sampled at Texas Craft Brewers and then got second sample just as it ran dry by Real Ale owner (Thanks, Brad!) What, me describe it in eloquent prose? Who the hell do you think I am, Martin?

Draught at the Easy Tiger, Austin, TX. Dark red brown colour with a tiny light pink head. Sourness, mild tartness, some sweet maltiness and red berries in the aroma. Promising. The flavour is sour. It's also full of red berries, sweetness and mild tartness. Alcohol well hidden. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Strangeways in Dallas. Pours a brownish-amber color with a medium off-white head and minimum lacing. Aroma of malt and dark fruit. Full-bodied. Taste of earthy malt, tart black cherries and salty yeast. The finish is peat malt up front with a tart cherry aftertaste. Weird vinegary sour holds on the palate. Strange, interesting, tasty and good. Good alternative to a Flanders red ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Aroma is sour with some oak. Appearance is a dark brown with no head. Taste is dark malt over powered with sour and ends very oaky. Palate is sour and dry. Overall, a good sour... Would have liked less oak though. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

GABF, 2012, Friday Evening. Simple and straightforward, this beer has a medium sweet malt flavor as well as some fruit flavor, combined with some flavor and aroma of balsamic vinegar which works very well in this beer. Good and sour, and surprisingly strong. Dry wood and yeast in the finish.
