COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mysterium Verum. Scots Gone Wild marks the initial offering from Real Ale Brewing Company in the world of sour beers. Real Heavy, our strong scotch ale, was aged for 6 months in American oak barrels, during which time it underwent a dramatic refermentation due to the presence of a very special cocktail of wild yeast and bacteria. The end result is a dry, cherry-pie sour, with a subtle oak character and a bold tartness. OG: 20˚P

Pours an average cheddar orange with a nose of wild cherry and horse blanket. Flavor is berry brett horse saddle. Tingly on the tongue. Not bad at all.

Yep. They’ve gone wild. I had no idea this would be so sour. Not too sour, of course, but wow. It has the meatiness of a Scotch ale, but also has the fermented, wild characteristic of a wild/sour ale that actually softens it up really well. This beer wasn’t carbonated very heavily, at least in my glass, but had it been it would probably put me off. I can’t remember the details of its aroma or flavor’s characteristics, but overall it was a sweet, slightly sour and dense beer. The sweetness and sourness are well-balanced, but bold bold enough, that it’s a strong-palated beer while still being very enjoyable. But wow, what a powerful flavor!

(Draught at the brewery during RBWG 2012) cloudy deep copper pour with fine tan bubbles. Nose of caramel, tart Brett notes, and orange peel, smells just awesome. Taste of caramel, Brett, orange pulp, light scotch presence, very well carbonated. Nice beer!

(Draught) Pours an amber-brown body with a spare white head. Aroma of horse blanket, vinous, wet weathered leather, and oak. Flavor of vinous, sour cherry, oak, raisins, and caramel with a dry finish.. Nicely malty for a sour, which is not something I would ever expect to say for a sour.

Please, Scot, can I have some more? Prunes, cherries, raisin, bit of leather, but nothing offensive. Nice acidic bite that cuts throught the fruity sweetness. One of the best beers I’ve had at FT.

1st beer of the 12th Anniversary party @ the Houston Flying Saucer .. . pours a deep amber purple .. strong foam .. . uplifting tart nose .. . cherry skin, sour prunes, road, and yeasty leather .. . medium bitters .. . very acidic .. . very nice beer but got tiresome as i went through my glass, probably would have been better if they blended it and calmed it down a bit.. . . Hey sideburns, want some of this milk?
