TheEpeeist (1430), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 7, 2008 22 oz bottle. Clear deep amber with a white haze. Nose is grassy caramel and faint cider. Medium body with a mild carb tang. Taste begins like a barleywine and slowly develops a raw bitterness. Peppery finish. As expected hops have faded and muddled but still and interesting brew. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 3, 2008 July 2006 - Beer poured cider brown, smallish head, some lace. Aroma was pine. Flavor was really hoppy with caramel malt sweetness underneath. Some other bitterness there, not pine, with nondescript flavor. Nice thick mouthfeel. This is one of the more bitter DIPA’s I’ve had. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Jan 8, 2008 Updated: Apr 3, 200822oz bottle. Pours darker than you would expect from an Imperial IPA but this beer is getting old on the shelves now. Deep dark honey yellow. Thinnish white head. Subdued deep dark hops scent. Almost tastes of... Basel. That’s it basel. This brew is different and pretty good right about now. Green and spicy. Thick but good palate, with good carbonation. Not a bad brew. If you see it on the shefl somewhere, grab it. It’s usually cheap too! ... 22oz bottle of the new Sudwerks version. Pours dark orange color with a crisp, white head that fades quick and leaves no lace. Subdued but potent nose. Distant smells of dark and bitter hops. The flavors seem delayed I take a sip, bitterness, but no flavor. The hop flavors don’t catch up until it hits the back of your tongue. Bitter and dark and biting and a hint of sweetness as well. Full bodied, vibrant carbonation. Still good, let it warm up just a bit. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 11, 2007 From a 220z. bottle--Poured a deep amber-copper body with a nice fluffy white head. Big piny, resinous hops aroma. Well balanced with big gritty malts. Citrusy and floral. Big on the grapefruit character. I like this style of beer, and I loved this one! Where can I get more? Firemoose15 (540), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 7, 2007 Bottle.Tasty treat shared with alo and RLB. Aroma was a strong piney hop blend. Poured amber light head. Flavor was all hip hop-ity, as I remarked, who put the pine tree in this? Palate was medium and finish was long. Overall, very tasty. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 4, 2007 Toast to Bill Daraghy who should have been with us for this one. Pours clear and amber with minimal head. Powerful aroma of hops and pine. One need only get to the nose to realize this a serious IPA. Taste matches the powerful aroma. Some citrus to balance the hops, but hops are HUGE with this beer. Boutip (2334), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Nov 2, 2007 Bottle courtesy of SS: Poured a deep clear orangey color ale with a nice foamy head with some good retention and very good lacing. Aroma of bitter and citrus notes with low caramel malt notes. Taste is also dominated by some fresh bitter hops with some nice citrus notes with a nice malt profile with some sweet notes. Body is quite full with some great carbonation and no alcohol notes are detectable. Very well done. wetherel (1565), Encinitas, California, USA Oct 28, 2007 $5.99 bomber from the 45F refrigerator in local liquor store. Was really surprized to see this. Last brewed in November 2006, according to Chuck, the brewer at Green Flash. Deep amber color. Small to micro bubble head surrounds the surface of liquid. Hops aroma pops out at me, when I first poured it into my glass, but then fades to a very nice amount of oxidation and malty goodness I love with aged IIPAs. Lovely. A real pleasure to smell. Taste has a higher bitterness, but the grapefruit aspect has disappearance, and been replaced with a little oxidation. Very drinkable. Would like to do a side-by-side with Double Bastard, but I’m guessing Double Bastard would win by 0.1-0.2 points. I’m going to buy another of these delicious soon-to-be-retired bottles.
