Commercial Description:
Don't be fooled by the label depicting a Grim Reaper Santa Claus in a sleigh pulled by skeletal reindeer - this is not a Christmas Ale. "Sleighor" is an Imperial India Pale Ale. The intense hop bitterness, flavor and aroma will dominate at first. To complement, the body has a complex blend of malt and alcohol flavors. The ABV is 9.1%, and the IBU's are pushing the mid 80s. The entire family of Cascade hops is used. Cascade, Centennial and Columbus are spread throughout the boil, and a huge sack of Amarillo for dry hopping. The hop combination gives this brew a distinct profile true to its IPA roots. The presentation is clear copper with a thick tan head, coupled with billowing citrus and floral hop aroma. "Do You Dare" to enjoy this fine ale from the Reaper? Brewed at Sudwerk for ReaperAle.

22oz - Thanks Foolish_Mortal - Aroma of leathery hops, caramel, and sweaty sock. That doesn’t sound good, but sure is inticing. Pours deep red-brown with a medium head and great lacing. Flavor is caramel, earthy hops, a little citrus zing and a large piece of caramel pound cake. Palate is tart and crisp. Different and tasty. A good dessert beer (never thought I’d say that about a DIPA)

Shared with Beerdrenched. This was a pleasant surprise after some disappontments. Pours clear bronze with a fluffy off-white head. The aroma has lots of floral and grapefruit hops, a nice malt balance and lots of resin. Medium body with a good amount of carbonation that doesn’t interfer with the flavors. The taste starts with a bunch of sturdy thick caramel malts, then the finish brings in a healthy helping of hops that are mainly piny and woody - very resiny. Very well done IIPA and very hearty and bold on all levels.

22oz bottle via trade with FlacoAlto! - Thanks Sebastian! - Pours dark amber with a fair offwhite head that fades back to a film but laces some from there. Aromas of big grapefruit and pine hops.. Flavor is much more balanced. Good Grapefruit and Pine but also some sweet caramel malts behind it too. Nice bitter finish. Full bodied and not much alcohol detected. I thought this one pretty balanced and tasty overall..

Slightly hazy medium orange amber, decent head. Big nose of citric grapefruit and pine hops. Flavor is predominately citric hops, again a focus on grapefruit, but some orange comes through as well. More pine. Initially the malt is almost totally lost, but as it warms, a hint of caramel comes through. Alcohol is present, and unfortunately, intrudes a bit. Somehow comes off as clumsy.

22.11.06 Bomber. Bit hazed motor oil color (amber with green tint). Little head quickly dimishing. Aroma is decent, surely c-hopped, a bit lemony, crackerish, it reminds me of box-mix lemon bars. That’s fine, but it also has hints of rubber and/or citrus scent household cleaner. That’s not so good. The flavor is brutally citrusy and astringently pithy. Body is medium-full with a sticky maltiness and an abundance of bitter oils. The astringency is long lasting. Big time citrus and flowery hops dominate. It’s a pretty over the top beer, even for the style, but it’s nothing too exciting and not even close to balanced. Alcohol is present throughout. Bit of a letdown.

Poured from the bomber a dark amber color with a beige head. Aroma hops, hops, and more hops, and a bit of caramel malt. Flavor was citrus hops a bit of caramel malts that was quickly ended by the hop bitterness in the finish.

Clear copper topped by a frothy light tan head. The aroma is loaded with pine. The flavor too is massive pine hops, some sweetness that helps things along quite nicely. The palate is crisp if not a bit too prickly. Good stuff.

Bottle. Hazy orange amber with a sheet of off white foam on the surface. The nose is big hops - citrus (grapefruit juice and orange peel), some pine and pineapple. There’s also a weird spice in the aroma as well. Taste is big hops as well. Lots of citrus peels, grapefruit juice concentrate, some lighter evergreen notes, maybe pine sap, and light spiciness. Only light malt and caramel in this. Not as balanced as I’d hope, but it’s still tasty. Body is oily and thick with light carbonation and a bit of stickiness. Finishes with, you guessed it, more hops. Lots of citrus (again, orange peel and grapefruit juice mainly), some pine, light caramel and hints of pineapple. Good, but could be more balanced.
