Pours a medium copper color with a nice off white head that left a lot of lacing on the glass. Aroma mostly of fresh hops with some citrus and a bit of sweet caramel malts. It basicaly smells like a pine tree that grows fruit (if that was possible). I look forward to this brew every year. I need to buy some and hide them from my roomate. Pours a clear bright reddish hued amber under a large frothy bone white head. Moderate amounts of fine carbonation rising gently. Aroma is a well balanced tripod of syrupy caramel malt, piney citric hops, and alcohol. Lighter notes of toffee and grapefruit. Flavor is aggressively bitter up front and finishes quite malty before returning to bitterness. This stuff’s got some hop juice. The malt balances well though and the alcohol is moderate. Mouthfeel is full bodied and almost syrupy with moderate pinpoint carbonation. Overall, this was decent. Doesn’t have the complexity and depth of a great IIPA though. droopy49 (97), Lancaster, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 16, 2006 On tap at Stuffed Sandwich. It was my 1st time there and Sam yelled at me as soon as I got to the counter, you gotta love the guy. This poured a dark amber color with a nice foamy head. Big hops in the aroma, some sweet caramel also present. Flavor is similar to the aroma, lots of hops but the malt and hops just don’t seem to come together. I really liked this one, but there was just something about it that I couldn’t put my fingure on. eaglefan538 (2360), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 12, 2006 Poured amber orange color with a nice intial head and ok retention. Lacing was weak. The aroma was of grapefruits, caramel, and some pine. Flavor followed suit with some floral, leathery fruit type flavors (apricot), and a very strong, lingering bitter finish (a serious bittering hop in this one). The mouthfeel was nice for a dIPA, the dry bitterness fending off any stickiness that may have otherwise been there. A decent dIPA, but very bitter. illinismitty (1795), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

Strong malty, citrus, and piney hop aroma. My first sip made me wince. Huge malty backbone (like a barleywine), with bitter juicy hops taking center stage. I pick up very faint smoky flavor, maybe just the hops messing with my senses. Boy what a rich, bitter, resiny finish, along with some sweet citrusy notes. This is a true hop bomb.Very one dimensional, but sometimes you just gotta have your hops. This may be my first IIPA that I could say that the hops could be toned down and still be a beast. The bitterness is almost obnoxious, and I love IIPA’s. This should really be in 12oz bottles, as this is a sipper...and a palate killer. Whew!!! Time for bed JasonG (700), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 1, 2006 22oz bomber: rather cloudy dark amber color with big off white head. Aroma has lots of toasted caramel, hints of apricot, peach, hazelnuts, cottoncandy, sherry. Flavor is malty, fair amount of caramel, bit of oak, subdued hoppiness. Finish is mildly bitter, faint metallic notes. Another one that straddles the line between dIPA and barleywine, but doesn’t quite do either justice. ChazMania (409), Pasadena, California, USA

Had it at Stuffed Sandwhich here in So Cal. Thick creamy head, and flavor for days. Nice chewy and rich hop flavor, with a long lasting warmth to the insides. Definetley one of my favorites. Gotta find more.
rerated- from 4.2 down to 3.5. The rerelease of this beer is nowhere near as good as the original. It now tastes like metal and tin.
