ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Jan 6, 2006 2005 bottle, a VERY generous bonus (1 of 7 bonues) from FlacoAlto consumed on 1/1/2006 with OldGrowth. Deep copper, bottle conditioned appearance shows light haziness. Light amber-candied orange color with an off-white head that is very well-retained and laces quite well. Smells fruity (cherries, juicy pears, apples) and citrusy, with sweet caramel blending with the cascades to give a clean candied-orange note. Distinct amarillos continually impart a playful fruitiness and profound juicy green hoppiness that tugs at the nostril, almost magnetic, really. Flavor is BITTER at first and makes me sit back and let my palate adjust for a half a minute. Very piney, leafy and fairly acidic loosening, at length in to some light caramel sweetness. Warming and breathing (and most importantly, adjusting to the bitterness) a hop fruitiness abounds with light melanoidins, moderate resin. Bottle conditioning and lower than average filtration gives it a frothy, tightly carbonated mouthfeel and lightly chewy texture. Fruits, pine, grapefruits, floral notes all evolve in one way or another over the course of the beer. Dry, bitter pine on end, with light pale malt sugariness. No yeast, surprisingly; very clean. For what I’d expect, the acidity is surprisingly well-controlled, especially considering the style. Alcohol concealed well too. Thanks so much Sebastian! OldGrowth (1407), North Carolina, USA Jan 2, 2006 Bottle, provided by ClarkVV. Great nose. Citrus, orange, pinneapple, Some floral notes. Clean classic copper orange, good head and good lacing. Bittersweet flavor. Here’s where the grapefruit kicks in. Found some toffee/caramel in there. Medium to thick body, oily viscous mouthfeel, bitter citrusy finish. WOW, this one is a real pleaser. This is how I like them. Thanks Clark!!! goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Dec 30, 2005 Poured a Poured a clear deep amber color with a large sized long lasting off-white head. Hoppy aroma. Nice and fresh, citrus and floral. Some fruity malt and alcohol notes. Acidic flavor with caramel underneath. Big bitterness running thorugh. Medium bodied. I didn’t expect this one to be so good. I need to pick up some more. RCWCPACFP (102), New Jersey, USA Dec 29, 2005 Better than their Pale Ale and yes it was a real ride. Got buzzed by the bottom of the bottle and it’s citris almost tropical fruit reminded me of a green mango... perhaps it was the alcohol but I loved this beer and I would pay the steep asking price again. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 21, 2005 Cloudy orange. Light but lasting foam. Big citrus aroma. Long lasting hop flavour and finish. The malt is just strong enough to let the massive hops float through your mouth. I like this beer better than most appear to. Delicious for hop heads without slapping you in the face. Alcohol? What alcohol. TipsyMcStager (900), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Dec 21, 2005 overpowering citrus hop aroma.Whew! Pours a nice murky appearance, thin white head. Nice malty backbone. Lemony hop flavours. Strong hop finish. A solid IPA. grant (792), Long Beach, CA/Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Dec 11, 2005 Slightly hazy copper, modular head. Aroma of fresh cut grass, slightly harsh green pepper, and cookies. Tastes very dry with nostril-burning soapy hop accents but still has a little malt beefiness (toast). Finishes too dry for my tastes with a bit of a rubber/synthetic tone. pineypower (1076), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Dec 11, 2005 Been wanting to try it cause of the cool bottle designs, who would have known the beer has character too. Intense floral/citrus hop aroma on the pour. Orange color with a small head. The taste is nive and hoppy with huge grapefruit and floral hop flavors. Maybe a bit too much on the finish, but overall this is a pretty solid beer
