Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Nov 27, 2005 Large billowing light tan head of small dense bubbles. Light carbonation. Intense floral hop aroma wih plenty of grapefruit thrown in there. Light roastyness also. Dark orange in color. Big bitterness in the flavor. More so than in alot of other IIPA’s. Lots of grapefruit rind, pine and more roasted grains. Little bit of sweetness. Noticable alcohol kick and warming. Just something not the same as some other highly rated IIPA’s. The flavor and aroma is not succulent enough. With some of the good ones, just smelling makes your mouth salivate and then when you taste it, a flavor explosion. Just not getting it here. Slick roasty finish. A very good IIPA. Just needs something else to get it over the top. Spookykinkajou (4), USA does not count Nov 26, 2005 Smells great, looks nice, but it has a bit too much bitter grapefruit like taste for me. It’s strong though. Maybe on the 2nd glass I’ll have to edit this. jimmack (1221), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Nov 24, 2005 Bottle thanks to Joeec5. Hazy amber color with a small beige head. Citrus and pine hop aroma that screams Amarillo(which I love). Bitter hop flavor that overpowers the maltiness. A bit thin bodied, but hides the alcohol very well. freekyp (900), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA Nov 23, 2005 With its thick fluffy tan head, deep copper body, and massive amounts of lacing, you know this is a quality brew before tasting it. Sharp grapefruit aroma is in abundance. Talk about bitter. You got it. Sharp, but not unpleasant, this brew’s apricot fruitness, citric tartness, and slightly malty dart in and out, hiding behind huge wafts of sharp hoppy goodness. Really good, but really bitter too. Not for the faint of tongue. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 18, 2005 Pour is hazed amber with a thin almost non-existantt head...smell is much more malty than most IIPAs...grapefruity hops too...not very aggressive mouthfeel, sort of still...taste is slightly sweet up front, but the only real hop presence it straight bitterness at the back of the tongue...over-rated...thin and watery... JoshuaB (422), Detroit, Michigan, USA Nov 6, 2005 Dark copper amber with some fizzy white head. Nose is all hops, some citrus, and a bit of malt. Taste is all hops, towards the bitter end of the spectrum. Very little malt or complexity, but still a solid and good tasting beer. SuIIy (1405), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Nov 5, 2005 22oz from Fordest. Pours a deep amber color with a white head. Nose is very hoppy, slight malt. Taste is deep hops and light malt. Finish is quite bitter. Ungstrup (14724), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 5, 2005 [At RBSG 2005] An amber beer with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet and very hoppy, but also with notes of caramel. The flavor is very sweet and very hoppy with alfa acids mingling in.
