Light brown head on a dark brown body. Very roasted and bitter. I have never been a fan of dunkels, and this is a good example.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 ALLOVATE (2108) - Butler, AUSTRALIA - FEB 1, 2011
From the bottle, into the classic schwarzbier flute like that pictured, not quite chilled. Yields a very fine bead with a tight, compact tan head that holds and laces well. Shimmering, darkest ruby-brown is the body. Smells oddly of cured beef, fresh Biltong, anchovies and cocoa with hints of cola soda and rust coming through, at least it has character. Sweet and bitter burnt, caramelised sugars dominate in the mouth atop a bed of toasted and chocolaty malts. Twiggy bark, burnt wood and rust in back tries to soften the sweetness. Lightly bitter malt swallow holds some chocolate ice-cream notes and wood to linger long with much residual sugar. Body is medium-light but it sits quite heavy and become increasingly cloying as it warms further. Just doesn’t come together, it is way too sweet form me! (50cL, BB 10/12/10, Cellarbrations Carlisle)

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 BeerBaboon (1199) - FINLAND - MAR 1, 2011
Tämä kapinallinen on tumman ruskea, hyvin tumma. Oluen vaahto on beigeä.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 FatPhil (7498) - Tallinn, ESTONIA - NOV 11, 2007
500ml bottle.
Almost black, large frothy beige head. Slightly sweet and metallic aroma. A bit thin in the mouth - sugars and a bitter burntness that becomes metallic. Can’t put my finger on it, but something was missing. Quite gluggable though.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Maria (9570) - Thisted, DENMARK - DEC 22, 2007
Brown/black with a huge head. The aroma is sweet and malty. The flavour is sweetish and rather thin, but it has weak notes of candy sugar and caramel. It has a light bitterness and in the end a hint of licorice. Uninspiring IMO.
