Bottled. Near black in colour with a slight, off-white head. Big, black coffe and baileys aroma with some dark chocolate sweetness. Flavour had more of the same, with a dry finish. Good.

Numbers and comments only: Delivers promises, chocolate madness. Some vainilla too, but the chocolate is the thing.

On tap at Chippenham Beer Festival. Strong aroma of Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Dark with little head. Extremely chocolatey in flavor without being excessively sweet. Strangely light bodied. The star of the show.

Bottle from Chester Beer & Wine. Inky black with a quickly disappearing tan head. It has a very rich milk chocolate and fruit salad sweets flavour with an oily mouthfeel and tropical fruit and more milk chocolate on the creamy finish. Unusual and pretty good.

From the internet. Watching Eden Lake with The Missus. Tarry with a slender beige mousse. Naughty naughty chocolate eclair, Young’s Double Chocolate, chocolate at the centre of a chocolate croissant, mostly chocolate aroma. Then black cherry, pear drop and banana esters. All dipped in chocolate. A proper sniffer. Chewy dark prune and cherry fruit, speculoos hot cocoa, chocolate fountain marshmallow flavour. And somehow not sickly despite all that. Raisins. Succulent. Did I mention chocolate?

Dark stout with a milk chocolate aroma, the palate is cocoa, chocolate and vanilla, a lightly bitter finish. A little sweet and cloying for my palate, but the strength of this beer is well disguised.

Bottle at home from ales by mail
really rich milk chocolate aroma. dusty coca,a little acidic, sweet, full bodied, moderate carbonation, luxuriant. I’d have liked some more spice for something called mexi-cocoa but its a decent enough drop.

Cask conditioned at Oxford Beer festival ’15. Thick black with cream head. This had a syrupy pour, slow and glutinous, the beer has bitter chocolate throughout, levelled a little by a sweetish vanilla. Big old stuff and I would struggle with a pint, but good.

Bottle from Chester Beer & Wine. Black looks with a meek tan head. Nose had some chocolate, vanilla, dark fruits and malts. Flavour had a slight metallic tang which lets it down, alongside roasted malts, choc, earth and coffee. Dried out towards the finish. Ok but I look for a bit more all round in an impy.

CHOCOLATE! maybe a hint of vanilla in there too, pitch black with some tan lacing, jesus the chocolate and vanilla is massive from the sip through to the finish, slight alcohol burn to stop it being too cloying, pretty good!
