Cask at the Northumberland Arms, dark mahogany with a light haze. Lightly fruity and faintly tart nose, body malty but dulled. Not quite ready to serve?

Cask at the King and Castle, Tourist Town Zentrum, 14/11/15. Rich amber with a well appointed egg shell white covering that retains well. Nose is biscuit, toffee, earthy, grain, light hop notes. Taste comprises biscuit malt, straw, toasted brown sugar, light bread dough, caramel. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with a light bitter edge. Decent ESB.

Fat, oily and malty. Fruity and sweet from the malt with no head on a deep mahogany pour. A little bit of citrus and exotic fruit in the hops. Very drinkable.

The big brother to IPA and Smuggler, this is a typically malty ale. Neither aroma nor finish are particularly pronounced but has a nice mouthfeel which makes it very drinkable. Wouldn’t describe it as an ESB though, more an old fashioned special bitter. One for the malt fans, best avoided by the Hop Nazis.

Really lovely, full beer, balanced and without either being a bitter or a stout or mild, it slips nicely into its own groove! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pint at a wetherspoons. Very dark red with an initial creamy head, but it doesn’t linger. Smooth malty beer with hops and a nice bitter light crystal malt finish. Pleasant lightly hopped aroma. Perfectly drinkable. Fruity notes.
