Beer_Hawk (673), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Dec 21, 2006 Bottle. Poured a dark amber with a thin off-white head that fizzed off quickly. The aroma was subdued but some malts were picked up. The flavor was of sweet malts, mainly caramel. Medium body and a dry texture.
Gregis (884), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Aug 16, 2008 Bottle courtesy of TheBeerCellar. Pours a clear orange-brown with a finger of creamy beige head. The nose is of sweet, round malt with supporting notes of brown sugar and chestnuts. Medium-bodied, slick and creamy it sports assertive carbonation on the swallow and a lightly bitter and mildly astringent finish. The flavor follows the nose with an additional quality of light astringency and a mild, burnt caramel note thrown in to boot. This is a fairly solid brown: drinkable, flavorful and perhaps most importantly, it isn’t boring. Thanks for the bottle, Matt! BlackDonald (1040), North Carolina, USA Aug 10, 2008 For this being their flagship beer I would expect a little more out of it, but overall it is not a bad beer. Malty and sweet, with hints of nuttiness and toffee. Just a little too much on the light bodied side. Apellonious (53), USA Aug 4, 2008 12 oz bottle...Pours a deep brownish red, with a virtually no head at all. The aroma is of chocolate, vanilla, and fruit. The taste is the same, with a hint of plum and some mild spice (nutmeg?). To quote the great Austin Powers, "its a bit nutty". Having a hard time placing it, to be honest. Sweet. Malty. Slightly bitter. One of the better browns I have in quite a while.
Remember the old Pete’s Wicked ale? Before he sold out to another company, a company which replaced his recipe with something nowhere nears as good??? The best brown ale ever. This could stand up to the original, though since I haven’t had it in about 10 years it’s hard to say if it truly measures up
The mouthfeel is excellent, slightly slippery. The carbonation is on the low side, (see no head comment above). I have had a couple of sixes of this, and I must say I am impressed. Hank1980 (343), Athens, Georgia, USA Jul 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear brown. Aroma of light malt. Taste is also a little malty & nutty. Pretty weak considering the abv. Finish is weak. Mouth is pretty smooth.
Zaprozdower (15), Boone, North Carolina, USA Jul 5, 2008 Pour fairly transparent for a brown ale. Very thick head that lasts. Tastes very creamy with nutty and toffee flavors. Is very drinkable for this style but still has impressive flavor.
