COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine

Some of us have it and some of us don’t. You know what we’re talking about. That quintessential mark of a true man of beer legend, the very badge of the great brew masters the world over. Around here, we call it beard envy. And like this robust beer, it speaks volumes with words like “Put that razor down and take a drink.” With flavors of toffee, raisins and dark fruit accentuated by vanilla and a hint of bourbon balanced by the resinous pine notes of Chinook hops, this barrel-aged barley wine masterwork is as bold and hearty as the beards we salute.

Reddish amber colored body was clear, and formed a two finger thick head in the glass. This looked more similar to a DIPA pour than a darker one I was expecting of a barleywine. The aroma was sweet, with the malts showing up as brown sugar, and hops revealing some orange peel. The taste was quite sweet as well, with the first impression of honey and brown sugar. Mid palette the oak flavors became very evident, as vanilla, banana, and toffee showed up. The finish was quite dry, with charred wood tannin dominating to a slow fade. Quite a light body for the style with a distinct burn late. One of the better beers from Red Brick in my opinion.

7/31/15. On tap at Craft on Draft. Amber pour with a small khaki head, good lacing. Malty aroma, booze showing, plenty of oak, some vanilla, whiskey, caramel. A bit boozy/harsh on the flavor, some vanilla and oak, whiskey, lots of caramel. Nothing offensive but could be better.

Nice solid barley wine. Cloudy Amber. Caramel, bourbon, vanilla, oak, some fruitiness. Solid.

On tap at the brewery. Originally served a little too cold quickly warmed up. The dark red-amber body is topped b a durable bone-colored head that leaves very good lacing. Smooth mouthfeel with medium carbonation and a full-light body. A bit hot, but not really more than expected for 9.3%. Sweet and appealing aroma precedes a fine flavor with ample, but not overpowering, flavoring from the barrel aging. Notes of toffee, dates and wood. O: very good barrel-aged barleywine but a bit too boozy and hot: this would likely improve with some aging.

Bottle. Pours a transparent dark anger with a slight layer of tan head. Aroma and taste of malts, upfront booze, and some caramel.

Bottle. Hazy amber color, off white head. Aroma of vanilla, caramel. Taste has butterscotch, vanilla. Not bad.

Full-bodied robust and with a man-sized aroma, but the flavor is plain bad. Tart and cloying sweet at the same time, rendering it almost undrinkable. Strongly alocholic on the palate and in the chest.

This poured a lighter brown with a beige head. Aroma was big only bourbon, cartel, and dark fruit. Flavor was good blend of barrel and quality barleywine underneath, very rich, but a little stringent. Still very nice barrel aging.

Extra from westmeister-thanks! Deep copper brown with out much head but pretty sticky lacing. Nose is really rich caramel, sweet malts, some bourbon, and light coconut and oak. Sweet upfront, with some wood and hop spiciness, burnt sugar, bit boozy finish, with bitter end.

12oz bottle, courtesy of markwise, pours with a nice murky amber body that supports a thin light tan head. The aroma offers up molasses, prunes, brown sugar, some nuttiness and then mild smooth bourbon and booze. Nice indeed. The taste starts smooth and rich with molasses and smooth nutty sweetness and then quickly picking up brown sugar dredged prunes and dates amid a pleasing pine hoppiness. Just as the dark fruity esters start to reach nectar goodness the smooth sweet bourbon notes come to the surface with more nuttiness and some modest booze to help bring this to the finish. This is a great sipper.
