Bottle thanks to Dmac. Pours out a lightly reddish to dark brown color with no real head to speak of. Aroma is of burnt wood, cigar humidor, caramel, peat moss, and some light sweetness. Taste is caramel, light toffee, burnt wood, maduro cigar, earth, soil, vanilla and some mild lingering alcohol on the finish. Interesting.

Good beer that I had hoped was going to be a great beer. Pours nearly clear on the lighter side of dark brown with minimal head. Scent is booze and bourbon. The flavor is a bit skewed towards bourbon and booze. A touch thin for style. Bottle - Ale Yeah! - Decatur, GA

Bottle given to me by RB’s Scotchzi. Poured into a snifter. Deep reddish brown with a finger’s worth of tan head that faded into a thick collar and good amount of wisps. Good lacing. Aroma is molasses, sweet nuts (pecan or hazelnut) and toffee. Light body and low carbonation, but a sticky mouthfeel. Taste is much like the aroma: toffee and nutty with lots of grainy sweetness. I typically don’t like Red Brick, but this is one of their best IMHO.

There is strong aroma of caramel, biscuit, and molasses. It is a deep amber brown color with almost no head to speak of. There is a strong taste that resembles molasses, malted flavors, with a strong bitter sting at the end. It’s a little more lively with the carbonation than most barley wines I’ve had, but overall it’s good.

12oz bottle thanks to TBS. Poured a deep burnt orange/brown under a smaller dense foamy beige head. Aroma is sweet, molasses, toffee, caramel, raisin, oak and vanilla. Thick chewy body with soft to average carbonation and a very dry finish. Flavor really has the oak dominating throughout and the sweeter notes drying out. Dried out caramel, vanilla candies, dried bread crusts, citrus and some nuts. Good stuff.

Growler. Sample I got fizzed a fair amount, so have a thirsty towel at the ready. Pours a dark sepia that fades to golden amber at the bottom. Strong aroma is quite sweet, with notes of caramel and brandy and a woody hint. Flavor has caramel, fruity and woody notes - and a strong, but not too fierce, alcohol bite. Smooth texture is fairly viscous and fizzy. Don’t be(ard) envious, drink one!

12 oz. bottle. Pours a cloudy, dark brown, with a thin, tan head. Immense butter toffee and coffee, lots of oak, with some notes of bitter orange peels, vanilla, and some earthy hops. Heavy body, sticky, and very hard. Overall, this is a nice, boozy, and relatively hoppy barley wine. Overly bitter, but not bad.

Bottle to snifter (shared by jmborggren). Looks good; a translucent caramel with thin lacing somewhere between off-white and light beige. Smells solid; sweet malt, caramel, oak, vanilla, and bourbon. Tastes like it smells with a solid mouthfeel. Enjoyable.

UPDATED: MAY 27, 2014 Bottle - Oak, caramel and molasses. Clear dark caramel with a rich beige head. Buttery pecan, oak and dark sugars. A bit burnt and boozy in the finish, but for this price I am not going to complain.
