Bottle. Pours clear tawny with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is toast malt, dates, earthy and spicy hops, alcohol, oak, toffee malt. Flavor is sweet malt dominant with brown sugar, medium hops and bitterness with dark fruits and a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Dark brown pour. Small khaki head. Some lacing. Rich vanilla aroma with malt. Some bready notes. Vanilla and caramel notes in the mouth with malt and spice. Slightly boozy. But pretty balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark brown with a thick off-white head. Aroma of malt, oak, vanilla and bourbon. Taste is malty, sweet, vanilla, chocolate, molasses, oak and bourbon. One of the most balanced BA barleywines I’ve ever had. Really nice.

Great aroma up front of bourbon, malt and vanilla. Taste is good bourbon but not enough of the Barleywine. A bit tingly on the tongue and could be a tad smoother. Finish is acidic leading to smooth vanilla. I bought this because it read that it was aged in Buffalo Trace barrels. Being a huge fan of BT this was intriguing but not too discernible in the beer itself. Solid beer.

On tap. Foggy reddish brown with a small spit of foam on top. Aroma is vanilla cake with bourbon-chocolate icing. Taste is vanilla, bourbon, and orange toffee with touches of oak. Medium-heavy body is to the sweet side, shows a touch of the abv and has medium carbonation.

Smell is sweet creamy vanilla caramel, bourbony booze, but not over the top bourbon. Big sweet vanilla though. Taste is sweet oaky vanilla, caramel. Get a little yeast in the finish. Overall pretty smooth sipper with a not over the top bourbon touch. More English style. Creamy finish. Red Brick is quickly gaining ground as one of my favorite local breweries. They have the most shelf barrel aged beers for sure. Most definitely the most improved brewery over the past couple of years.

A beautiful aroma of fudge, coconut, and praline. A serious candy factor to the aroma. Appearance is ruby red with hardly any carbonation. The taste is very similar to the aroma: loads of coconut and hints of carmel with a lasting finish. Nothing is overly bitter at all. A fantastic, but a very different barley wine.

Ah. So there is bourbon barrel. I was thinking I got something, really more wood and vanilla than bourbon. Rich malts, dried fruits. Nothing overpowers. Big, but balanced. Good job Red Brick.

The beer was interesting and worth trying. I haven't tried a barley wine ale before so I didn't know what to expect. Honestly it tasted exactly like a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel ALS.
