Black-Eye Rye is an American-style India Black Ale brewed with rye. Inspired by the popularity of this unique and interesting style, it pours midnight black and features a fluffy cappuccino colored head. Donít let the dark color fool you though, because this is Red Brickís hoppiest beer yet! The aroma features complex tropical fruit notes of mango and peach intermingling with classic citrus and pine, as well as a slight hint of cocoa. The flavor is resinous and piney, complimented by a velvety mouth-feel, and finishes with lingering notes of grapefruit and bittersweet chocolate. Itís sure to keep you coming back round after round!

Pour near black with tan frothy head. Aroma of peaches (!?) and some light chocolate. Not what I expected. Taste is powerful with tons of pine hops, rye that lingers, and more chocolate. Very unique black ipa!

Bottle. Moderate to heavy toasted grain for the malt, moderate resin for the hops, light earth for the yeast, with notes of charcoal, alcohol and tobacco. Head is small to average in size, frothy, light brown with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly to moderately acidic and lightly bitter, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily with a soft to lively carbonation. Nice smooth mouthfeel and some deep aromas set this beer apart from other Black IPAs.

Black with minimal head. Aroma of slight hop and lots of rye. Dont get as much of the dark malt as i would like, but still tasty.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown almost black color with a finger of creamy mocha colored head that settled fast. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, caramel, and light citrus/piney notes. Taste is rich coffee, dark chocolate, hazelnut, caramel, pine, and some spice from the rye. Really creamy mouthfeel. Overall a really well done BIPA.

Pours an opaque brownish black from the bottle with thin tan head that leaves moderate lacing. Aroma is hops, hint of chocolate and rye malts, and then more hops. Taste is more balanced between the hops and the malt, nice coffee and dark chocolate notes coming through, but no real hint of the rye. Pretty solid overall, clean finish and easy to drink considering the alcohol.

Series Six of Brick Mason Series. 12oz bottle. Very dark brown pour. Aroma of hops, resin & pine. Has burnt grain in the nose, mostly hops. Flavor is all hops. Very bitter, mostly pine flavors. Finishes with a charred malt character, some dark chocolate, roast, and grapefruit skin. This beer is definitely an American Black IPA! (3749)

Black pour. Small tan head. Little bit of lacing. Big citrusy hops and a peppery malt aroma. Danny hop flavor with a nice malt backbone. Very nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle poured into a small glass. I guess you canít quite call it a "black IPA," but itís pretty close and, if it was, this would be my new favorite black IPA. Thick, hearty, but not filling. Hops make up a wonderful flavor profile, but donít overwhelm anything. You can taste the roasted malts, but itís not "roasty." Really well done. Good to see something this good from Red Brick. I knew they had it in them.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a jet black color with a medium beige head. A really nice aroma of rye and spicy hops. Reminds me of Dubhe a bit. The flavor is great: charred wood, smoke, rye, tropical fruit, light bitterness. Big milky chocolates. Very smooth and tasty.

I like this one. Nice fresh dank hops are the first aroma and they meld well with the bittersweet chocolate that takes over in the flavor.
