3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 GTAEgeek (771) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JAN 31, 2013On tap at the Windward Taco Mac. Pitch black, with a ruby note. Milk chocolate, with light cherry and wine notes. Very sweet, with little to no bitterness. Light to medium body, syrupy and a little watery. Overall, this is a weak bodied porter, one-dimensional, but still not that bad.

On draft at the brewery. Black pour with a light tan film on top. Aroma is a weird off malty and a little sour. Flavor is a little burnt malt and hop bitterness. Finish is coffee. Perhaps the cherry is the sour I smell, but otherwise I don’t really detect it.

Mostly chocolate notes with only the subtlest hint of cherry. Deep brown to black with a cream to beige foamy head. Balanced, a touch bitter here a touch sweet there. Medium bodied with a semisweet finish.

Poured from a growler into a pint glass. This beer smells like a box of chocolate-covered cherries! It’s actually much lighter in color than any porter that I can think of. It’s really a reddish pale color, definitely transparent. The flavor is heavy on rasin and brown sugar sweetness at the start, but with a tart finish akin to a sour cherry (or citrus peel). It’s a really unique flavor. The bitterness definitely lingers for a while, but that’s not a bad thing for me. Overall this is a delicious, if not terribly complex, beer. If you’re looking for something fun and different, look no further. Probably my favorite offering from Red Brick.

Tap at Taco Mac - Chattanooga. Deep, dark red, almost but not quite black. Smells like coffee, chocolate and a little it of cherry. Cherry is more apparent in the flavor, with a good deal of coffee and a bit of chocolate.

On tap at Taco Mac West Cobb. Aroma like a typical porter, couldn’t detect cherry. Taste was typical good-quality porter with a slight bit of cherry. Nicely done. This is not a fruit beer per se, but definitely a nice porter with a hint of cherry. Not chocolatey, but nice caramelly porter flavor. Was great with a fat, juicy burger. (Nothing beats a good porter with beef!)
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Cybercat (2449) - Georgia, USA - JAN 26, 2013
Comes out of the tap a deep, rich sable with a fine-bubbled tan head. Smoky mocha aroma has a decided note of cherries. Rich flavor has fine coffee, roast malt, chocolate and cherry notes and is a little sweet. Texture seems thicker and more robust than most porters. Pick this one!
