3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Red Brick Dog Days Ale has a the thinnest, off-white head and an initially clear, golden, bubbly appearance, with clouds up, once the caked bottom contents are swished and poured in. There is no lacing to speak of. Aroma is strongly of banana and maybe some white wheat bread, and the flavor is also predominately banana, with some background coriander, white bread, lemon, and a shade of bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and soft, and Red Brick Dog Days Ale finishes crisp, refreshing, and enjoyable. Really good stuff. RJT

Cloudy yellow with little to no head. Aroma is banana and clove. Flavor also has strong banana and clove notes with just a touch bread malt. A little peppery in the finish, though the body is a bit watery.

2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
Red Brick Dog Days Ale doesn’t measure up as a German Hefewiezen. Aroma is almost like a fake banana smell upon the initial pour, but it quickly disappears with the fizzy head that lasts only a few seconds. The color is a translucent deep yellow (again, almost artificial looking.) That same fake banana is in the initial taste but quickly disappears leaving the sensation of drinking seltzer water. No clove or peppery notes detected as would be expected in a Hefe and is not very satisfying without the usual white fluffy head. Dog Days Ale is better left to the dogs.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Murky gold, not much head. Smells grainy and citrusy. It’s a wee bit heavy, too. Flavor is citrus and, I don’t know, wheaty? Some pine in the finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Moderately sweet, wheat aroma with some fruit and peanut butter. Brumous, medium peachy gold, very thin head; bad label on a standard US longneck. Not bad at all, a good example of the style - tangy, fruity, not terribly hoppy. Lots of interesting esters, a little earthiness, a little pepper. Medium body, goes a little flat, pepper and light sweetness in the finish. ABC, Bull Run.

5/22/13. 12oz bottle from Green Truck. Hazy yellow pour with a small off-white head. The aroma shows citrus, lemon, and banana. The flavor has banana and citrus as well with a touch of cream and a slight mineral aspect. Not bad.
