PorterPounder (6144) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - FEB 25, 2012
Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Liquors - 12 oz bottle. Murky dark orange pour, sticky off-white head that leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma has some nice patented spruce notes with a hint of citrus. Flavor is bittersweet with nice citrusy grapefruit and some passion fruit essence. Malty, nutty back end to balance it out. Smooth, somewhat thick mouthfeel. Pretty decent.

Braudog (5999) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - JUL 26, 2012
Bottle at the Savannah Mellow Mushroom. Pours with a thick, mushy consistency. Has an opaque rust color and a firm standing head. Drinks with a thick orange malt essence and a nice alcoholic kick. Not bad for a Southern brew ... definitely a sipper. (#4706, 7/24/2012)

Bottle during the RBWG lobby share. Pours a cloudy orange with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is grain and bready malt. Thin mouth, resin hop, light pine, decent.

Bottle from Total Wine, Naples. The pour’s amber with a tiny head. Plenty of dandruff and floaties in the glass. The nose is full of caramel, sweetened orange peel, toast. The taste is more caramel, a bit of unripened melon. Moderately grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium body, soft carbonation. Overall, a pretty middle of the road IPA.

Bottle. Gift from my friend Noel. Amber pour with a tall, foamy white head. Aroma is earthy hops, citrus, caramel and sweet malt notes. Taste is citrus, floral and earthy hops, touch of iced tea, caramel and sweet malt. Toasted grains as well. Body is medium with a strong, bubbly carbonation. Mild lingering hop bitterness. Ends with more caramel, toasted grains, citrus notes, iced tea, floral hops and earthy hops.

12 ounce bottle from Hayduke. We had it together via facebook chat. Some haze in this golden orange beer. One finger of foam that soon almost completely disappeared. An odd aroma that is hard to describe. Fortunately it tastes much better. All kinds of tropical fruit and grapefruit is tasted. Decent bitterness. Some pine resin, too. This was a classic west coast IPA and it is a nice one. I happen to like the style a lot.

I wonder how a beer like this would do in a blind IPA tasting, because sometimes I think beers benefit from lowered expectations, and sometimes they tend to get pre-judged because there from a brewery that everyone had decided is mediocre. For example, this was a nice, fairly sessionable IPA that seemed as good as IPA from breweries held in higher esteem. I liked it, and would get again.
