Lots of roast, smoke is very slight. Spicy sweet cherries, sweet potato, dark malt. Brown molasses. Some vanilla is present. Gives a cool grape flavor. Bottle from j Barleycorn

12oz bottle-pours a dissipating ltight brown head and brown color with red tint. Aroma is smoky wet wood campfire. As it warms, caramel-medium malt. Taste is sweet medium malt-caramel/roasty, bourbon, medium fruit-slight vinegar occasionally.

(12oz bottle from drowland). Pours a dark brown red color with minimal tan head. Aroma is savory smoke, vanilla and whiskey. Taste is semi-sweet with loads of chocolate. Light bitterness. Medium bodied with an oily texture. A little hot, but pretty well restrained. Not bad at all

Pours beautiful dark chocolate with a decent off white head. The aroma is predominantly smoked malts with light sweetness, not much vanilla in the nose though. The flavor brings smooth notes of smoked malts and light vanilla on a smooth body that has no alcohol notes at all.

12oz bottle split among friends. Pours a jet back with a beige head that quickly disappears. Nose is very faint but traces of vanilla and roasted malts are there. Mouthfeel is thin and canít quite carry the French vanilla, roasted coffee, and very subtle smoke. This beer was barrel aged?

Smells very smoky and has a nice smoky aftertaste. I was expecting it to have a noticeable vanilla flavor, but it didnít. Pretty good, but Iím not sure Iíll buy again.

Aroma is SERIOUSLY smoky, like burnt green wood, with a hint of, yep, you guessed it, vanilla, and a touch of coffee. It pours a warm opaque sable with a thick, fluffy, persistent light tan head. Smoky flavor has vanilla, coffee and molasses notes to it. Firm-bodied texture is fairly fizzy and leaves a woody, smoky finish that has hints of coffee and yeast.

Heavy on the oak flavors, not on the vanilla flavors. Definite coffee flavorings on the head. Would be a solid porter offering if my expectations werenít tainted to expect vanilla in the porter. Itís there, but extremely faint. Canít quite cut through the barrelís smokiness.

Black, small brown head fades leaving little residue. Aroma of chocolate, wood, light char, light tart berry. Taste doesnít have the hot whiskey flavors that a lot of these beers do. I am having this after a Yazoo SUE and honestly I would rather drink another one of these than SUE. Thatís hard to say since Yazoo in my local TN brewery, but itís the truth. The texture is better than the SUE. The complexity is better than the SUE because of the whiskey addition. Great stuff.

12 ounce bottle - $2.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, near black body with a medium-sized, light beige head.

Smell: A sooty smokiness certainly leads the pack, followed by sweet-scented chocolate, sugar-dosed coffee, and some dark fruits, the vanilla bean pods, as well as the barrel treatment coming in dead last (but, better last than never, right?).

Taste: Sweetish malts, some semi-sweet chocolate, roast-accented coffee, and the expected vanilla, but, unless the previous iteration, with a noted chimney smokiness. Light bourbon character, no more, with caramelized sugar creme brulee tops. Sweetish, smoky finish with that barrel character trying to emerge, even at the last second, but not quite getting there.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Develops a smoothness as the carbonation dies away.

Overall: Sweetish, mellow, and smelling, at times, of smoke. A bit like myself, really.
