3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Medium size, off-white head on a deep ruby red body. Malt aroma and raisins. Initially a sharp bitter taste, then once past that a thick taste of dark fruits, warming alcohol and a touch of vegemite, not a drink for everyone but I like it.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
330ml bottle. Dark brown iced tea clolur with an even level layer of light misty foam that sits well in the glass and looks strong in the body. Rum and raisin like aroma that entices you to take a sip. Quite dry on the palate with a long smooth aftertaste.

Bottle. Dark and sweet. Rasins, woody and smoky. A lot going on this, and it all works.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark red brown, poor beige head. Sweet malty aroma with some sweet-shop spice and grass. Complex and rather sweet dark/ stewed fruit malts (prunes, raisins, figs) and nuts with solid "tidying-up" bitterness that lingers to the finish. Hints of iodine there too: this is quite Welsh-tasting. Cockles, laverbread (seaweed) and black pudding would be a good match here.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 330ml. Great strong beer. I had this with some chocolate, and the blend was sensational. The aroma had toffee, butterscotch, and also alcohol. Sweet flavour, not overwhelming, with a final touch of bitterness. Velvety mouthfeel, medium body, slightly alcoholic finish. Colour is dark brown, it has particles, and the white head doesnít last.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark copper pour with a creamy off-white head.
Aroma shows lots of sweet caramel, but also quite a bit of hops, with lots of resin, mint, and earthy notes. Quite interesting!
Flavours are dominated by rich malt and soft alcohol. Lots of treacle, smoky peat and nutty notes, with little of the hops present in the aroma. Very rich, the alcohol if pretty full on.
Very thick chewy body, which suit the beer well.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Fizzy head early but settles quickly, leaving a thin creamy head. A few solids floating; slightly unnerving. Light brown tan in colour. Rich nose, good depth and weight. Malt driven, a touch of raisens and a little pongy. Backs up well in the palate with similar flavours. Low fizz, a little cloying. Big malts, sweet, more stewed notes. Tails off a bit in the back palate but very good. Shows a depth of flavour rarely seen in Australian beers.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours muddy brown with a creamy beige head. Great aroma of dark rich malts, chocolate, raisins and some spicy tones. The flavour is the same and results in a smooth mouthfeel and good bitterness that leads to the finish. Nicely balanced. An enjoyable strong ale.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Described on the bottle as a "Strong Celtic Ale". No idea what that is but this was a sticky monster of a beer, thick with residual sugars. Echoes of Pauwelís Kwak, in that you need a really sweet tooth to enjoy it. I liked it a lot, but it was Beer No. 5 in a tasting, so my palate was not as sharp as it could have been. Muddy brown colour with a good lacing cappuccino head. Thick aroma of toffee, smoky malts, Bundy rum and brown sugar. Geez, itís sweet - if you stepped in this aroma it would stick to your shoes. Creamy palate. Lactic mouthfeel. Sweet molten caramel and a lick of turpentine. Very nice. Itís all about the sugars. Happy to go a bit against the grain here. (33cl bottle from Cloudwine Cellars, Melbourne.)
