Packs good punch and is actually quite drinkable, a character I don’t always associate with high IPA styles. Good lifted fruit on the nose. Palate is not quite complete; plenty of hoppy bitterness early and late but there’s a hole in the middle where the intensity drop away. Weird, but not a massive issue. Good effort.

Bottle from Slowbeer. Clear orange/amber, large frothy head, citrus, pine, passionfruit, caramel lollies, extreme bitter finish. Quite good.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a light clear golden orange with lots of foamy white head.
There’s lots of orange and lemon on the nose, and some yummy tropical fruits like pineapple, papaya and mango. There’s also a generic fruity sweetness.
Tastes of citrus, some more pineapple and mango, just a little bit of caramel, lots of pine and quite bitter on the finish. Unfortunately, the carbonation gets in the way. It’s very high for an IIPA.
Body is medium, and as I said the carbonation is pretty out of control.
Very nice once the carbonation dies down. An all out hop assault, without too much malt character to get in the way. It’s good to see that Australia is embracing both the very balanced, quite malty IPA and the balls-to-the-wall all hops IPA.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours pale amber with a big white fluffy head.
Strong fruit punch aroma, pineapple, passionfruit and melon.
Smooth and fruity, pineapple and passion, good even bitterness and very light resins.
Crisp and clean finish, doughy malt gives it a lighter bitterness.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours amber with a large lasting head.
Aroma of honey, white wine, sweet malt, sultanas and some light fruity hops.
Flavours include more honey and sweet malt with soft banana, sultana and fortified wine notes. Some booze later on along with a metallic note.
Way too much carbonation.

330ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Mainly foam in the initial pour but is does settle to a hazy amber beer. Overdose of floral hop aromas with a flavour to match. Resinous and long lasting finish.

Is there anything Red Duck can’t do? This one is even better than their Hoppy Amber, which I love. There is such a depth of character to this beer, with loads of flavours, including honey, watermelon, rockmelon, grapefruit, orange and coriander. It was a genuine shock to read that this is a 9% beer. Just a ripper.
