Pours dark and opaque with a light tan head that dissipates quickly. Strong coffee aroma. Strong roasted malt flavour, but not much else. Lacks in flavour for a porter, with only slight hints of chocolate and caramel. The base for a delicious beer is there, but it falls just short of the mark

Great rich smooth malty flavours with a sweet aftertaste. Could drink a lot of these on a cold night

Poured a dark brown to black colour with a thin light brown head that diminished quickly leaving little lace. Moderate carbonation. Aroma of roasted malt. Taste smooth and of roasted grain followed by some sweetness. Medium body.

Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours chestnut brown with a small off white head. Residual lacing comes around but not for long. Dark chocolate, dark fruits and caramel on the nose. Odd mix but works decently. More roastiness in the taste than was expecting from the aroma, dark chocolate again followed by caramel and coffee. A real mocha feel to it. Prickly carbonation. Solid beer without being outstanding

Dark brown coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, earth and a touch of chocolate. Medium-bodied; Not a strong roastiness at all with a little odd earth and caramel taste followed by a vegetable or off-tasting flavour soon afterwards. Aftertaste shows mostly malt with a little sweetness and a very odd herbal note toward the end. Overall, not such a great beer, but not horrible when sampled along with food. I sampled this 33 cL bottle sampled at a local pizza restaurant in Port Campbell (Great Ocean Road), Victoria, Australia on 01-January-2010.

330mL. Aussie blind tasting part 4. Pour is all fizz cola rub with really not much of a head. Aroma is an odd spicy mix, massive Kalamata olives, just so over the top on olive juice. As it warms there are hints of coffee and roasty porter notes along with something odd like lemon lime soda. Taste is dominated by carbonation, suddy, fizzy, some Kalamate olive juice coming in to be cut by a dry, suddy, chalky palate. Eventually some dark chocolate comes through.

Maris (989) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - JUN 5, 2010
From a 330ml bottle on 6/6/2010. Pours extremely dark with almost no head. Aroma is roasted malt, berries with a bit of coffee, caramel and toffee. In the mouth, its both tart and sweet, quite fruity (raisins) and malty, with some noticeable warming alcohol and decent bitterness at the finish. A solid porter.

330ml bottle. Pours thick and oily black with an even tan coloured head. Black in colour, like a moonless night. Strong dark chocolate aromas with burnt malt. Good mouthfeel with a silky texture and smooth burnt flavours. A great porter.
