3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cask at The Ale House, Colchester. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasted malt with a little smoke. The flavour is medium to strong bitter with a watery liqourice bitter spicy pepper hop palate with a short bitter finish. Medium bodied with flat carbonation. Nice enough but the bitterness doesn’t suit me. Perhaps they should revisit the hop combination.

Cask at The White Hart, Margaretting Tye. Opaque, dark brown porter, with little white head. Fairly malty, slightly choccy, slight spice, but a bit of astringent bitterness. OK, but bit too light/watery.

Bottled@The Chriso rock the roof down pre-GBBF tasting. Deep amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruits, wood, yeast, quite earthy and wooden. Also some mild ashy notes. Flavour is much the same in a quite nice balance. Also mild notes of liquorice.
