4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Enjoyed this beer several times, in bottle, on tap and draught through an English handpump from a cask conditioned barrel...every time it has been very consistant and wonderfully delicious. Pours a thick jet black with a full creamy tan head. Lush aroma of chocolate, coffee and some light floral hops. Big beautiful taste of a classic Russian Imperial Stout with dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and a hints of spice and smoke. Solid body and spot on carbonation. Very well balanced beer, the big alcohol is warming but doesn’t take the slightest touch away from this beer. The finish is long with a soft hop bitterness that is lovely. An excellent excellent beer. Probably Australia’s best craft Imperial Stout (to style).

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The head is a bit thin but the mouthfeel is soft and creamy. The taste is simple but nice - sweet milk chocolate. Like a milk stout. Very enjoyable if that is what you want from your beer.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Inky black with small tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, dark fruits, oak, roasted meat. The taste has oak, port, dark chocolate, molasses, some alcohol. Too thin in body, however. Not bad but needs more viscosity and more complexity to balance out the dominating sweetness.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bit of a dull pop on opening, presents at thick looking near-opaque brew with small ring of dense dark tan foam eventually forming, and holding.
Decent nose to it; burnt caramels, charred grain, medium-roast coffee, cocoa with some dried leafy & stonefruit hop character.
Surprisingly not all that thick, low carbonation provides the impression of viscosity but it doesn’t have the legs to carry it all that long on the finish.
Quite sweet upfront; dark brown sugar, 50% dark chocolate, strong milky coffee, licorice, leafy, earthy hop character. Bitterness is moderately high, remains somewhat sweet on finish with lingering black & dried fruit undertones.
A tasty brew, no doubt. Just lacking a touch of oomph and body to get it on par with the big boys of the style.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours opaque dark brown with filmy tan head. Strong upfront coffee aroma. Chocolate and dark fruity sugary notes follow. The tastes is a little nutty, biscuity and sweet, but not overly so with a nice smooth mouthfeel which coats the palate well. Actually get a yeasty taste in this one too. Quite low on bitterness, with a slightly roasty finish that leaves a pleasant warmth.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle from Purvis cellars. Smells of sweet/savory pipe tobacco and soft leather. Pours black like onyx with thin tan foam on top. Tastes of bitter coffee and dark chocolate with a hint of rum & raisin. Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly carbonated. Hides the high alcohol well, dangerously drinkable

Tasting at Bruce’s new pad. Thanks to Josh for bringing this over. Opaque dark brown beer with a small pale tan head. Palate starts smooth but has a light minerally crispness. Milky dark malt and light milk chocolate. Trace of dark fruits and a whisper of spice. Light dry finish. Nice beer!
