3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Local Taphouse in Sydney. The roasted malts really come through, leaving an odd brew which seems like a marriage between a rauch and a kriek. Pretty tasty though.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
330ml bottle from Crafty Brew. Poured a deep chestnut brown with a tall and slowly fading light tan head leaving a slightly soapy lace. Aromas of caramel, toffee, earth, roasted nuts and tangy dark and dried fruits. A little choc and roast too. Similar to taste with more roasted malt presence contributing to the finishing bitterness. A little watery despite its Modest ABV, medium carbonation and a soft to moderate intensity and length finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hand pump (at Keg and Brew). Dark burnt brown with a lightly tanned, frothy head that lasts perfectly. Aroma is of roasted barley with chocolate, toffee, coffee, sultana’s, dates and hints of salted liquorice. Flavour is smooth and malty with a light earthy hop bitterness, roasted barley, milk chocolate, toasted nuts, muscatels, raisins and light notes of coffee. Light to medium bodied with very soft carbonation, a watery texture and a good length dry/toasty finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Looks good, great dark head and deep red brown colour. Taste, not quite as strong as I’d hoped for. Low alcohol (for a scotch ale) might have contributed. Overall OK, but looks better than it tastes. Shame as this brewery’s other beers have all been impressive. will go with other brands for my Scotch ales.

4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
This beer is delicious. It pours thin tan lacing, dark copper brown. The aroma is lacking, light roast, might need to let it warm slightly. The taste is great, long bitter malt finish.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle into glass. Toffee roast caramel chocolate alcohol on the nose. Dark red colour (prune juice?). HUGE frothy tan head. Looks a bit mad. Tastes sweetish with a subtle clean hop finish. Really well balanced.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a caramel brown with a foamy light brown head that dissipated quickly, but returns on agitation. Sweet caramel dominates the aroma. Brown sugar, toffee and dark fruits. Taste is sweet and almost sticky but not excessively so. Very smooth. Nutty, caramel and dark fruits are the dominant flavours. Medium bitterness to balance the sweet malts. Excellent.

Reddish brown. Aroma is very sweaty in the worst of ways. Taste seems a little off, but with a sessional toffee caramel aspect. Scotch ales are some of my least favourite beers so this isn’t necessarily bad, just kind of forgettable.
