Labarde (22), Australia May 6, 2008 330 ml Bottle. Strong malty alcohol nose. Pours a dark reddy brown with a lingering off-white head. Taste is quite hoppy with a nice maltiness and subtle burnt-caramel sweetness. Creamy mouthfeel with a very easy finish. I enjoyed this beer.
durhambeer (701), Durham, USA Oct 9, 2008 Looks like I’m the first North American to rate this beer, thanks to my friend Kat. Tasted from a bottle, and given an earlier rating, perhaps this is the best way to rate this one. Hazy copper/brown pour with yellowish off-white one-finger head that disappeared pretty quickly. Roasty caramel nose and all variations of malt aromas... brown sugar, burnt sugar, toffee, cookie, and a bit of dried fruit. Even more fruity on the palate with a hint of burnt wood and malted milk in addition to the strong malt and fruit notes. I think this bottle might have been aged a bit. It’s quite sweet, but I think the age has done good things to the sugars; I really liked this beer, apparently more than most other raters. Dredd (404), Ormond, Australia Sep 26, 2008 On Tap - Mocha and Caramel nose, pour is dark brown with thin white head. Flavour is raisin, brown sugar with some bitterness, but the finish is predominantly toffee. Quite Enjoyable. MBison (449), Southern Highlands, Australia Sep 9, 2008 Bottle (330ml). Poured hazy dark bronze with a small, dense, off-white head which lasted well. Aroma was very rich with toffee malts, milk chocolate, toasted nuts and some golden syrup. Flavor was of smooth rich toffee malts with creamy caramel, milk chocolate, molasses and hints of coffee. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, a dry/creamy mouthfeel, thick texture and a good finish. Cummins (5), North Melbourne, Australia does not count May 25, 2007 If I wanted to drink something that tasted like this, I could have gone to the supermarket and bought a bottle of Cottee’s Chocolate Topping. But hey, at least it got me drunk.
