awaisanen (1143), Irvine, California, USA Jul 8, 2006 On tap at the restaurant. Deep, dark brown color with a thin layer of tan head. Pleasant roasted malt aromas with some notes of chocolate and a light dusting of fruity prune. Full bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel that brings a plethora of medium dry chocolate to the palate. Alcohol is very well hidden beneath the well balanced malt layers; I’m actually a bit astounded at the subtleties that are popping out of this 10.5% stout. Perfect balance between sweetness and dryness in that it comes across as being none or the other. Long, smooth finish of toasted oats and chocolate dipped toffee. More, please. redlem (1103), Illinois, USA Jun 16, 2006 Ack, did not expect a 10.5% beer when I ordered this right off, the oatmeal part lured me into a false sense of a low ABV beer. Dark brown color with little to no head, slight ring around the glass. Roasted malt aroma with some sweatness from the oatmeal in aroma and taste. Alcohol not detected in either also. Good, surprising beer and while I love the UP this is not good enough to make a special trip for. jtw (911), farmington, Michigan, USA Aug 23, 2005 on draft at the brewery. dark thick black pour, with little head but a constant ring of tan foam touching the glass. even though this brewery only puts out one beer, i’m glad it’s a stout, and i’m glad it’s as good as this. toffee and cream and espresso blend together well; i will most certainly revisit this restaurant! CharlesDarwin (1382), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 26, 2005 Updated: Apr 9, 2005A murky burnt black pour, with a copious light tan head. Rich coffee, chocolate and malt aroma that waft off the beer. Interesting and complex flavors starts out fruity and full of hops, but finishes with coffee on the tounge and chocolate in the nose. Bubbly and sweet. A nice oat and strong black currant aftertaste with some alcohol notes on the smack. Not very dry, finishes sweet with a touch of fermented notes.
