CharlesDarwin (1407), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 29, 2007 On tap at the Michigan House - Calumet, MI. Heavy banana and clove oil aroma. Classic, fresh and bright with flashes of white pepper. Slightly quiet. Murky deep brown, with amber edges and a yellow-tinted soft white soap. Flavor is right in line with the aroma. Lightly peppered wheat sugar over a brown sugar body and light candied banana. Bits of apple amongst the phenols. Rather dry, which is enjoyable and makes it heavily quaffable. There is some mineral quality to the back end, but nothing distracting. Finishes on a light lemon oil glow. Hops are missing. Otherwise, very faithful to traditional standards for the style, almost to a fault. It would have been nice to see some originality in this beer (color may the exception). That’s not to say that a nicely reproduced, very fresh, very drinkable rendition isn’t enjoyable in and of itself. Nice work.
