COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bent Nail I.P.A. is a tribute to the hard-working contractors who make their living in Red Lodge. The I.P.A is high in alcohol and hop flavor. We use copious amounts of American cascade hops to give the IPA intense grapefruit and citrus aroma and flavor. Bronze medal winner – 2007 Great American Beer Festival.

Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – The beer is served amber color with tons of carbonation bubbles seen streaming up through the brew. Upon serving there is a thin white head that rather rapidly fades to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is strongest of some citrus smells of both a bitter grapefruit hop as well as an orange aroma. Along with these aromas are also some lighter smells of a bready and doughy aroma with some other light smells of pine. Taste – The taste begins with a rather bready flavor with a decent showing of some grapefruit hop right upfront. There is also some caramel taste and a bit of orange at the start with the caramel later fading some as the taste moves onto the end. The grapefruit all the while grows stronger and is joined by a light earthy and pine flavor. In the end, the mix of flavors that is left on the tongue leaves a very pleasantly hopped but smooth and somewhat crisper citrus flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the style and citrus flavor of the brew the feel is very nice as it maintains a great easy drinking feel, all while being still able to support all the nice flavors well. Overall – This was a very enjoyable IPA and one I will certainly seek out again. Quite pleasant!!

On tap at Pete's Pizza in West Yellowstone, MT. Clear, dark amber copper-red with a creamy off-white head and excellent lacing. Aroma of bready malt, earthy hops and pine. Taste of sweet bready malt, orange, pine and musty hops. Medium body and medium/high carbonation with a very foamy soft mouthfeel. Rather malty and with subdued hops for an IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I bought a 6 pack at Star Liquor in Sheridan. Bottled on date of Sept 20, 2013. A slow pour brought a 2 finger head of foam sitting on a deep golden coloured brew. The smell is hoppy with notes of grapefruit and orange backed by a mild malt sweetness. The taste is mildly bitter hops, again grapefruit and orange, the malt is kind of nonchalant; sometimes a sweetish flavour comes into play and then is gone. I think the hops are just beginning to fade from, what I’d think they were like, when fresh but not enough to where you get that grainy, kind of sickly sweetness old IPAs usually end up suffering from. Nice mouthfeel here and it is certainly easy to drink. It’s a good brew and decent IPA.

Draft. Amber body. Off-white head. Aroma of caramel, toasted grain, grapefruit, pine, orange. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Average IPA. Bitter finish. Taste of citrus, grapefruit and pine.

Good hop aroma. Surprisingly mild taste with a smooth finish. I'm surprised to read it was a Bronze winner. Good, not great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap, Sacajawea Bar & Grill, Three Forks MT. Pours a cooper color, thick white head. Aroma is very hoppy, bits of pine and light citrus. Taste is medium bodied with a bitter taste, slight sweetness that finishes well. Not my favorite IPA from Montana, but right up there.

On draft at the grizzly bar in roscoe mt. Pours amber with a frothy off white head. Grassy hop aroma. Significant maltiness to this ipa but it really hit the spot after two days in the Beartooth backcountry.
