Bent Nail I.P.A. is a tribute to the hard-working contractors who make their living in Red Lodge. The I.P.A is high in alcohol and hop flavor. We use copious amounts of American cascade hops to give the IPA intense grapefruit and citrus aroma and flavor. Bronze medal winner – 2007 Great American Beer Festival.

On tap at Mackenzie river pizza. Pours a golden copper with a light beige head. Aroma pleasant citrusy and floral hops, distinctly cascade and a nice malt background. Flavor is smooth and balanced hops and malt with medium bitterness. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

In a world full of over the top IPA’s, Red Lodge Ales makes this very refreshing, and completely drinkable, IPA. Fresh hops abound, with some great citrus notes. Finish is long and unoffensive.

Moist and heavy from a good hopping! There is definately some good hops in the nose but mine is a little burnt and can’t quite pick it all up... Very nice clear reddish brown, just a hint of haze, exactly the amount of red and brown an IPA needs. A bit of nice fine foamy head on pour, fairly decent lacing. Nice a nd smooth in the mouth, a good bit of hop bitterness at the end but it is nicely balance with all the flavours and alcohol. A pretty darn good IPA. Just the right amount of everything, really gives you a good appreciation for cascade hops.

Pours nearly clear gold except for some chunkies. Foamy beige head. Aroma- sweet citrus and mild pine. Taste is a good balance of sweet and bitter but nothing extraordinary. Overall a bit watery and bland. Finshes with some husky grain and vineous bitterness.

Bottle:   Coppery amber, large foamy off-white head, spotty lacing, moderate carbonation.   Sweet piney nose, slight citrus peel.   Smells pretty darn good.   Moderate bitterness, a little soggy/wet, decent malt base, some citrus peel is present.   Clean, really well balanced.   This is a solid beer, and deserves a better ratig.   Decent hop bitterness, very slight sweetness, with a malt base to carry the biting flavors.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Does get a little cardboardish as it warms.   Either way, I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent malted Montana IPA.

Very smooth IPA. No kick or real measurable bitterness. Since that is what I look for it wasn’t my favorite.

A decent IPA. Not quite a NW IPA, but pretty darn close. I’d call it a 50/50 mixture of British and NW IPA. Good beer.

Solid effort from Red Lodge. On par with Dale’s Pale Ale? No, but better than the rating. Fault is the residual bitterness, but aroma and up front taste is quite good.

Resinous grapefruit with a bit of a pungent, cattiness and pine. Color is dark copper with a thin-white head. Flavors similar to aroma, sweet with a good amount of hop flavor manifested as pine and a bit of citrus fruit of some sort. Flavor is hop-forward, but there is a lot of sweet caramel malt with some toasted bread. I like that the body isn’t too full,.. it’s a little thin but I think that’s a good thing in this beer. It’s flavorful but drinkable.
