Bent Nail I.P.A. is a tribute to the hard-working contractors who make their living in Red Lodge. The I.P.A is high in alcohol and hop flavor. We use copious amounts of American cascade hops to give the IPA intense grapefruit and citrus aroma and flavor. Bronze medal winner Ė 2007 Great American Beer Festival.

Resinous grapefruit with a bit of a pungent, cattiness and pine. Color is dark copper with a thin-white head. Flavors similar to aroma, sweet with a good amount of hop flavor manifested as pine and a bit of citrus fruit of some sort. Flavor is hop-forward, but there is a lot of sweet caramel malt with some toasted bread. I like that the body isnít too full,.. itís a little thin but I think thatís a good thing in this beer. Itís flavorful but drinkable.

Poured from a 12 ounce bottle. There is a nice citrus, floral, pine nose. The flavor is showing oxidation, enough caramel maltiness to be detracting, toffee. Not bad.

Reviewed from notes, this was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance was a fairly transparent red color with a less than a fingerís worth of white foamy head. Dissipation is moderate and nice. Spotty lacing. The aroma starts with some dried grapefruit rind-like hops and then gently flows in a caramel malt balance. Subtle grassy hop character gently infuses as it warms. The flavor balances nicely between caramel malt and grapefruit rind bitterness. Well balanced malt to hops aftertaste strolls into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a clean semi-sweet to bitter sessionabililty about it. Carbonation feels good with some touch of prickliness from the bitter hop component. Overall, for the most part, itís a pretty good AIPA. I could see myself coming back to this.

Bottle at the one bar inside Bozeman Airport. This is a pretty clear amber with a good white head. The aroma immediately brings to mind a stronger SNPA. Solid grapefruity hops are noticed first with appropriate caramel malt balance. Perfect bitterness in the flavor with clean, but subdued hop character considering itís an IPA. Finishes with juicy grapefruit notes. Not too shabby.

bottle at Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone. Might have been a bad batch - or expired - but this was pretty unimpressive IPA.

Crisp clear light copper and honey coloured body with a nice and smallish two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of a lot of caramel, some earthy malt, a touch of grass, a little soap and a hint of floral and perfumey hops. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal flavour up front with hardly any malt at all, some light sugars and very little else - a touch of hops. Aftertaste is pretty mellow as well with a little grassy herb flavour, some stale hops and a bit of grain. Overall, not such a great beer and definitely missing a few aspects to make this decent, but sadly, still nice for me to try given itís a long way from home, and itís a local beer, but if you can get this beer and others regularly, pass this one up, this isnít worth your hard-earned money! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Vintage Sellers in Great Falls, Montana on 20-June-2016 for US$1,75 sampled at home in Washington on 16-July-2016.

On tap at Jakeís in Billings. Pours a nice copper color with a little head. Not much aroma but a little pine. Smooth mouthfeel. Taste is mainly light pine. Medium dankness with some lemon. Yeah, pretty solid IPA. Not great but solid. Easy to drink, I think I had three. Bitterness is medium to low.

Pours a dark amber from a bottle, heavy white head with lots of lacing. Aroma of pine hops, flavor of lemon, some caramel, rather bitter but well-balanced. Good beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz pour from tap at bar in Bozeman. Clear, orange, fluffy white head. Medium body, fairly creamy. Fairly bitter, a little biscuit maltiness, a little orangey citrus. Tasty.

They call this an IPA? I had it on tap in Yellowstone. It pours an amber color with a white head. Nose is caramel, hops, tropical fruit. Flavor is caramel/grain; no hops. Light bodied.

Pours a deep golden color with a medium cream-colored head. Piney aroma. Starts mildly bitter on top of some dried fruit flavors. Good finish but a bit of a one trick pony. The flavor is consistent throughout. Just a hint of the homebrew tang. Not bad but not great.
