COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Helio Hefeweizen is a refreshing, golden wheat beer. Wheat and Citra hops give Helio a zesty, citrus finish. Gently rouse the yeast in the bottom of the bottle to add a bread-like flavor. Helio, which comes from the Greek word meaning sun, celebrates our brewery’s larges solar array, that not only heats our brewery and taproom, but also generates hot water used in the entire brewing process.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance – The beer pours a very lightly hazed orange amber color with a one finger head of fizzy white foam. The head fades rather rapidly leaving only a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass. Smell- The aroma is big of a bready and wheaty smell with lots of yeast. The yeast brings with it some banana and bubblegum as well as a hint of a more citrus smell. A little bit of a grass and hay are there as well, creating a very nice balanced weizen aroma overall. Taste – The taste starts with a sweeter flavor of bubblegum, banana, and candied sugar mixed with other flavors of citrus and a rather strong wheat bread taste. Most of these flavors create a base flavor for the brew with only the candied sugars fading as the taste advances. With the loss of the candied flavors comes an increase in a yeasty flavor, which actually grows rather strong, and slightly spiced flavor of coriander and clove. With a hint of a hay and grass coming to the tongue at the end, one is left with a rather sweeter and yeasty-wheaty flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thinner to average side in terms of its thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather average. For the mix of sweet, yeast, and wheat the averageness of both the carbonation and body are rather appropriate and make for a refreshing an easy drinking brew that still has enough body to support the rich flavor profile. Overall – A rather enjoyable, slightly yeastier, and sweeter, Weizen overall. One to at least give a go to if you have the chance.

On tap. Hazy dark golden with a white head. Scent and taste is mild, FWIW these are too cold imho. Some fruit and wheat.

12oz bottle. Thin head, faint grain aroma, solid presentation/color. Smooth and easy but not much here for me - decent but nothing to bring me back.

Tap. Bright light yellow with a frothy white head. Muted aromas with some citrus and light wheat. Slight wheat, some faint hay sweet-sourness, but pretty bland. Lighter body with spritzy carbonation.

Bottle. This "looks right" for a hefeweizen ... Hazy yellow with a firm white head. But there’s little distinctive flavor. Just a vague grist with a lemon twist. Not bad, not great for style. (#4646, 7/3/2012)

Received in a pint glass at a little eatery near Yellowstone. 4.0 A: Moderately hazed green tinted yellow color. Came when I was in the bathroom, so I can’t comment much on the head, but it did leave lots of lacing. 2.5 S: A little bit of bubblegum and a touch of clove, but not very hefe-y. Neutral wheat without a lot of complexity and not very clean either. 3.0 T: Pretty much like the nose. Touch of bubblegum and clove, but without a real hefe identity. Wheat flavor is a lot stronger than in the nose though. 3.0 M: Lighter medium to medium body. Good hefe carbonation, but it is a bit bity. Very light creaminess. 2.5 D: Mediocre hefe that is missing most of what I like about the style. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 06-25-2012 05:33:35

12 ounce bottle thanks to Toby, thanks man! Pours a mostly clear orange color with a medium sticky white head. A sweet nose of honey and marmalade. An easy going smooth hefe; citrus, very grainy, light oranges and a earthy dry finish. Nice. I really have began to enjoy this style.
