Out the bottle, cool not cold. Not much noise once the cap came off, it pours with little life but manages to settle with a tight tannish crown that just lasts the length. Black body, good clarity, a shimmer of ruby brown comes through when held up to the light. Hefty malt nose with a good lot of cocoa, vanilla, rust, cola soda, damp, dark wood and fresh strapped leather. Full bodied and well rounded, it is quite filling in the stomach. Malt dominated with pronounced smoke, charred wood and peat over dusty cocoa and rough chocolaty grains, a very soft sweetness upfront fades as it moves back. Bitter burnt malt swallow has a soft astringency to it, the finish is surprisingly short. This is a nice Porter. Easily quaffable and another fine beer from this brewer. (50cL, BBE 05/12, Bridge House Cellars, Exmouth, Devon)

Cask conditioned gravity dispense Banbury BF 2011. A black beer with an off-white head. A fruity aroma with sweetness. Dry in the mouth. Not a lot of flavour and a bit on the dull side, but definitely drinkable.

bottle from Sidmouth Wines (08/2010). Deep black colour, small head. Light, dry with hints of caramel, slightly hoppy. Reminds me of Guinness.

50 cl bottle, Sheffield, UK via Devon @ Anton and Anneen’s. Deep mahogany with a chestnut head. Heavy roasted malt and chocolate aroma, mild carbonation and a sweetness of cocoa that turns bitter quickly.

Bottle, 500ml. A dark colour with very little head. A fairly sweet, malty aroma with hints of forrest fruits and barley. Flavour has lots of biscuity roasted malt, some delicious dark berry notes and a little smooth hop flavour in there too. Really delicious and easy to drink - I could drink a lot of this!

Bottle Conditioned. Pours a lovely dark ruby colour with a thin tan head. Plenty of chocolate and malt in the aroma, the taste is all smooth roast malts with a hint of chocolate. The finish is all roasty malts with a dry finish.

From the Bottle at Tom’s Ultimate Glasgow Tasting, Blackfriars 01/12/2007 Slightly rich roast aroma. Mid brown red coloured with some fruit flavour. A little dryness in a crisp roast finish.

Bottle conditioned, 500ml, from Happy Apple, Totnes, Devon. Black / brown with slight tan head, quite flat. Quite dead on the pour, lifeless, the beer is on the watery side, there are some redeeming dark roasted malt flavours, but overall the whole was less than expected.
