Red Rock’s Elephant Double IPA is enormous! Six different hop varieties combined with the finest malts and double dry-hopped for a massive sensory overload.

Bottle shared at Craft, many thanks to Craig. Pours hazy gold with a sturdy, white foam head. Big, sugary grapefruit nose. Sweet flavor though lightly drying with pale malts, further grapefruit and other, rindy citrus. Full bodied with average carbonation. Fairly sticky, resinous on the finish, more grapefruit. Good DIPA.

Orange yellow with decent, somewhat bubbly, white foam head, lacing to glass. Nice bitter hops aroma, like the taste hoppy all over. Good long lasting bitter aftertaste. Good beer, moreover as I am drinking this at the brewery. (Salt Lake City 201208)

Being an unusual size I wanted to give this a try when I had plenty of time. Even though it is only about a pint and a half at 8% this is not really a beer to rush through. I would not want to either - the contents are a good example of an imperial IPA that doesn’t try to go over the top. Hopefully the saison is just as good.

Aroma / Appearance - Transparent coppery fluid pours into the welcoming glass. A wispy white head sits idly on top. Daisies, roses, and orange peels highlight a floral bouquet worthy of a centerpiece. Resin lurk in the background like a tree during maple syrup season.

Flavor / Palate - Chewed up orange peels scour the previous tastes off the tongue. They then work on sticking to every corner of the throat. A nice mixture of floral and malty aspects merge into a solid beer. I never knew that Salt Lake City could hold such gems.

Tap at OBF. Pours light amber with a slight eige head. Aroma seems citrus. Med + body. Flavor is backbone roast malt with citrus/resin hop. Lots of hop. It’s strongly flavored. Quite bitter.

Bottle at Salt Lake Airport--Hazy amber, fluffy off white head. Soft bitter floral grassy notes with lighter waves of citrus peel and dried malt throughout. Well balanced from start to finish. Medium bodied and smooth. Utah has come a long way. Impressed...

Classic DIPA appearance in the form of an amber colored, clear, body, foamy, large head, and gentle strings of streamers. The smell was floral, grassy, and citric. The taste was a bit more vegetal than I was looking for. Green apples, grapefruit, an lemon rind were evident in the taste. There was a considerable level of bitterness throughout. Mouthfeel was medium thick and chewy. Not very memorable.
