First brewed in 1938.
It is a light alcohol drink with not too strong bitterness but rather soft taste; therefore, it’s easy to drink it up.
Brewed for the UK market by Charles Wells since 1976.
Brewed for US market at City Brewery’s Latrobe plant since 2012.

Bottle. BLAH! Smoky and spicy, but not in a subtle way. Metallic and skunky. The only cool thing is drinking out of a stubbie like the McKenzie bros.

Pours very pale yellow with a thin white head. A nondiScript malt aroma with a nondiScript flavor with a nondiScript hop aftertaste. A safe choice with bad restaurant beer lists. Nothing offensive (so it is better than bud-miller-coors) but nothing really good either. A favorite before I tasted real beer. Rating a little high due to nostalgia.

Light pissy colour with a fast disappating head, Skunky weak malted nose. Watery taste with a skunky crisp dry finish. Pretty poor stuff.

Bottle. Golden and fizzy with a significant white head that diminished rapidly. Smells of malts and citrus hops, flavor is sweetly malted, touch of spice and mild hop finish - unremarkable really. Light body and fizzy carbonation. I pro'ly like 'im mo' betta ona Jamaica vacation mon.

Slight dough/yeast smell to this almost sour tasting brew. Definitely light and somewhat metallic on the end.

Clear straw color from the unique bottle with very litte fizzy head. I was bored at a bar so I ordered one and was surprised at how much I liked it. Very sweet, with lots of honey notes and an almost caramel corn flavor. Great with food.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2004 Cool little bottle. I think people who want to look different like it solely for the bottle. A fairly decent lager. Light on aroma and taste. Smells of old socks. Taste is thin with a little more malt than most macro lagers.

UPDATED: JUN 23, 2007 Ok hats off to Red Stripe for the great little brown bottle..very easy to grip! Ok the beer looks pretty attractive in my pint mug..again a nice crystal clear golden colour nice looking small white head..goes but nice lace ( why can’t american macros look as good as many import macros?) The aroma of the beer is kinda average..its not horrible but its not really noticable...wait its been 5 minutes I can now smell the maltiness..its ok. MM This beer has a strange taste but i really like it,,it has a nce honeylike malty sweetness then it has this really spicy taste on the back of the tongue, then its gone to be replaced by a pleasantlly hoppy aftertaste. Pretty easy going on the palate except the pleasant spicy buzz. Another very drinkable lager beer. NOTES: I have tasted about all the American macros and none come close to being as good as this West Indies macro..same goes for the majority of Euro macros I have tasted. I know we all like to make excuses for the American macros but I dont think theres much excuse when a brewery in Jamacia can make a good beer then send it all the way to Oregon..and still taste 100% better than BUd or any other of that variety of

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2006 RE-Rate: OK, perhaps this bottle was fresher than last time. It’s being highly marketed now, so what the heck - pick up a single. Light and refreshing in the summertime, yes. So is Iced tea. Don’t expect much more.
