First brewed in 1938.
It is a light alcohol drink with not too strong bitterness but rather soft taste; therefore, it’s easy to drink it up.
Brewed for the UK market by Charles Wells since 1976.
Brewed for US market at City Brewery’s Latrobe plant since 2012.

Good Beer but pricey. We could have gotten MGD for less. Tastes pretty much the same.

The only disappointment on a Caribbean cruise. I switched quickly to Heineken, and was happy the rest of the trip. Red Stripe can be described in two words: Light and sweet. Many fine people love those two qualities in a beer - I am not one of them.

To get the bull shit out of the way, I would like to point out that this is the 100th beer that I have rated. With that said, this tastes more like a wheat beer to me except food doesn’t make it taste any better. The bottle is a kick ass short, fat man’s bottle but the beer leaves something to be desired. I was hoping for better from this.

the beer labels are sometimes filled with very funny things, like for this one where one can read: ’One of the World’s Greatest Beers’ - hmmm ..., ok let’s see: it has a pale yellow colour with very few foam, some malt in the nose, oily with a very short finish which gives an undefinable and unpleasant flavour in the mouth. Wonder what ’Greatest’ means in Jamaica ?

Update 3/15/02.... after 100 more Red Stripes, I have to say that cold this beer is great, but not too good at anything warmer than freezing. If you do go to Jamaica this beer will run you about $50J ($1.25 US) in cheap places, and as much as $150J at expensive ones.... It’s well worth the $50J. UPDATE 2/27/02.... Best Beer ever... I just got a free ticket to jamaica and will be there for the next two weeks while the midwest continues to freeze over. I’ll re-rate it in two weeks, after I have had 100 more of them.......Where to start with Red Stripe? First, don’t drink it unless you are in the caribbean. Beers like MGD will do just fine stateside. However, if you are in Jamaica, this is the beer that will cool you off from the tropical sun. There are a few rules to drinking Red Stripe however that must be observed.... 1.) After opening the beer, look carefully inside the bottle for debris, this does happen on occasion. 2.) Spill a bit on the ground, if no foam is present, it is possible that the bottle is ’soaped’ and has not been rinsed throoughly. If either of these problems occur, hand the beer back to the vendor, they will give you another one, and will actually get credited from the distributor. Compare this to Tecate in Mexico. You could drink water instead, but why would you want to?

Better than average, though not outstanding. Love the bottle though. Slightly overpriced. I guess i like this one.

A good beer, but it didn’t have the tatse I expected it to have I figured it would be a little stronger but it was a very average tatse, and I don’t think it’s worht the money

Not a daily beer, but a good beer here and there. Cool bottles. Interesting AS flavor.

It is a nice beer if you want a change. I wouldn’t drink it all the time though.

Maybe it’s because I had a few before this one, but I didn’t think it was that bad. I remember I had this beer a few years ago, and I remember hating it. This time I found it very drinkable and actually enjoyable(as far as American style lagers go.)
