blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 12, 2008 Bottle. First beer of the "Not-Very-Good-Beers-Tasting" - Day 1. Tonight and tomorrow night I’m going to go through several low rated beers, some of which are quite popular (with the masses) and some aren’t. First up is Red Stripe. Doesn’t look too bad, that’s a decent start. Pours a clear light gold with an average size somewhat-lasting foamy white head. A few bubbles here and there. Aroma’s O.K., I expected worse: Sweet aroma of grain and corn along with honey, sweet malt, vegetal notes and light grassy hops. Mild flavour is also sweet and a bit watery, with grain, honey, cardboard-like sweet malt, some hops and a light bitter finish. Light to average bodied. Honestly, compared to many of it’s counterparts this isn’t that bad -- It’s not good enough that I would buy it but given no other better options I could drink it. hoplover (166), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA Jun 11, 2008 The lager is not bad. It does taste a little watery and light. Not much of a beer in my opinion though. I like real beer. This is watered down imported stuff. FunkyBrewster (437), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 8, 2008 Updated: Aug 19, 2009Pours a bright golden yellow with a thick foamy white head. Aroma is very sweet and malty with some yeastiness to it. Flavor was extremely sweet, possibly a little too sweet for me. Very creamy texture and the malt is quite overpowering, so much so that I tasted very little hops. Pretty refreshing on a hot day though. Rerate: 08-19-09 Thanks to 17thfloor! Definitely taking some down on aroma, especially on flavor and palate. Bleck I don’t even know how i gave it a decent rating before, I think it was hot and i was drunk. Two might still be high. just really sweet with no body or anything at all Bungalo22 (326), Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA Jun 7, 2008 Has a ’skunky’ yeast taste much like that of Heniken. A decent pale lager on a hot day when it is very cold but that is where it stops. joebudzjoe (222), Connecticut, USA Jun 6, 2008 HOORAY BEER! Red Stripe released the only beer ad that created enough attention from me to finally try it. It’s a little too sweet for me, as this tastes like beer candy, but it’s nothing offensive. Very overpriced due to importation. gerardoluna (195), Mexico Jun 3, 2008 Nice brillant yellow color, smooth head, poor flavor and aroma, i think the sun in jamaica is the issue to make this "easy drink" beer. Nice to drink in "Cabo" and listen a good cd of Marley. i think a green and yellow color in te bottle could seel mooore and make of this jamaica beer: The Reggae beer ; ] HonkeyBra (1270), Lemont, Illinois, USA Jun 2, 2008 Pours straw level with a fizzy head. Aroma is sweet malt, a bit of skunk. Taste is pretty sweet and light, mostly corn with no real bitterness at all. Overall, it is such a nondescript and boring lager that I cannot fathom ever buying this again, or "Getting a taste for" a red stripe, or choosing this over miller. Really, all it has going for it is its marketing campaign. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA May 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours a pale gold with a white head. Skunky hop aroma, taste is rather sweet with out much bitterness to balance it. Not very good.
