ChrisTurner (202), Melbourne, Australia Apr 17, 2007 Bottle -- Fairly insipid clear yellow gold with a sudsy white head with poor retention and no lacing. Weak aroma that’s vaguely fruity. Watery/Dishwatery mouthfeel. Sweetish flavour saved from being too cloying by some bitterness in the aftertaste. Can’t believe the high ratings it’s got here. Maybe I’m missing something. riversideAK (2648), Shoreline, Washington, USA Apr 15, 2007 This one has more sweetness on the aroma and flavor than most pale lagers. It is a yellos golden color. The flavor is some sweet malt with some crispness, but I think this was more from the carbonation than alot of hops. It is easy to drink because there is not much going on here. It is an average beer that has good tv commercials. DragonStout (1380), Pataskala, Ohio, USA Apr 11, 2007 Pours a clear, pale yellow with lots of bubbles.Lots of malt aroma.Light mouthfeel with malt overtones.A sligt bitter finish. ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Apr 11, 2007 Bottle, 33 cl. Clear yellow, medium fluffy head. Pretty clean malt aroma with some hops. Thin mouthfeel. Some sweetness but also a decent bitterness. Refreshing and drinkable, one of the better pale lagers I’ve had. Brewosk (137), Illinois, USA Apr 7, 2007 Easy to drink beer with some hoppiness. Little head some hints of fruit. Red Stripe reminds one of jamacian fun. keoki182 (305), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA Apr 7, 2007 I had Red Stripe during my foray into beer geekdom a few years ago. At that time, I found Red Stripe to be full-flavored and quite bitter. It packed too much of a wallop in the mouthfeel department for my BMC mouth to handle. I recently had the opportunity to sample this again. The bitterness that I had recalled was suddenly gone. In its place was a distinct candy sweetness. Did they change the recipe of the best known Jamaican beer? Or had my tastes merely changed? I’m going to assume that with my last few years’ of increased and varied beer tasting, I have learned a more appropriate classification for this beer on my own personal taste scale. All in all, Red Stripe smells malty and kind of sweet. It tastes quite sweet with a slight astringency in the aftertaste. In my friends’ experience, Red Stripe is a great entry beer into our world. It’s easy-to-drink profile and fun marketing campaign (Hooray beer!) make it a good first beer when expanding one’s horizons. Ambrose (141), East Aurora, New York, USA Apr 4, 2007 Updated: Jun 6, 2007Were just lucky we don’t get solmanella or tetnis for drinking this. I snuck some into a bar one time. and the lady is like "where did you get that?" I’m like "Jamaica!"
This beer is jammin mon. In every sense of the word. Tis good. Tis very good. Chantdaddy (19), New Jersey, USA Apr 1, 2007 As someone who prides himself on only drinking good beer, I try to avoid purchasing any malt-liqour-type American lagers (read: bud, coors, etc.) yet I always find myself reaching for 6 pack of this stuff on a hot summers day. Despite the fact that this is a relatively thin lager lacking any significate depth, it does manage to hold on to some character, making it a little bit more than a thirst quencher. Red Stripe will always hold a place in my heart!
