4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
I found this on a recent trip to Tulsa. I donít know a lot about it, though a cursory glance at the label shows that this is a Belgian Pale Ale aged in Whiskey barrels. Hmm. Interesting.
The beer pours a cloudy orange to amber, darker than I would expect for something billing itself as a ďpale ale.Ē Very little head on this one, despite me pouring from about a foot away from the glass. Itís nice to look at, with a moderate amount of bubbles ringing the beer.
Aroma is different, as thereís a sweet Belgian yeast characteristic followed by the heat from the whiskey barrel. I get a bit of an apple pie characteristic, or at least the pie like my mom used to make Ė without the cinnamon. Not a lot of oak, but thereís also a welcome vanilla note that is hidden somewhere in the background.
Taste is quite nice. Okay, thatís not quite fair. Taste is pretty damn amazing. This is like a liquid apple pie. Layers of sweet and light fruit are followed by wonderful sweet caramel malt flavor. The whiskey and oak serve to enhance the whole sensory experience, adding to the perception that this isnít a beer but a dessert in a glass. I often donít like whiskey or alcohol tones in my beer, but in this case it works. It almost feels like Iím drinking a liquid whiskey bread pudding. The whiskey is muted and underscored, which helps in turn to elevate the entire experience. This is a very well constructed beer from start to finish.
The mouth feel is slightly syrupy, with only a small amount of carbonation. This leads to a somewhat cloying character on the palate. I suspect that this is one of those beers that you canít drink a lot of. Taken as a single glass, itís quite wonderful, with this delicious apple-whiskey-vanilla-dessert thing going on. However, Iím afraid that this is one of those one-and-done type beers, meaning that itís not one I think you could drink a lot of. Still, as a one-and-done, itís quite fantastic, and easily the best thing Iíve tasted from Oklahoma.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: AUG 9, 2011 bottle thanks to chase!! poured a cloudy golden with a small ring of a white head. aroma was peach, orange, apricot, vanilla, whiskey, candi sugar, and some slight belgian yeast qualities. flavor was spot on with the nose, but I really enjoyed how the barrel didnít overpower the beer. It was a really nice blend. The body was low on carbonation but it was full bodied, which I like. a nice example and I look forward to more stuff that chase brews!!

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle thanks to Ericandersnavy, thanks man!
Pours with a Damnit from me as it appears to be flat as hell when I pour the dark mustard colored liquid. VERY large bubbles form as the pour agitates the liquid in the glass. Then, as if a mirical is happening in front of my eyes, a small ring of tiny bubbles form arounf the ring of the glass and continues across the diameter of the glass.
Smell was incredible, then i got a whiff of urine... so I smelled again and again. Vanilla from the barrels is very nice, whiskey is there as well, and the urine odor appears to cling to the whiskey. Booze finishes off the nose, but it is not overly present. I cant get past that urine smell... Very good otherwise.
Taste is not what i was expecting at all. i was actually expecting a sour/tartness... though now that I reflect back on the nose, not sure why i was thinking that. I guess it is the history of the word "cuvee" I have had. though Cuvee means blend of wine... or vat more or less. It has a nice light whiskey flavor to it. Loads of vanilla from the oak, very crisp, clean taste. There really isnt much more than that. It is a light whiskey/vanilla flavored beer. The label says Belgian Golden style... and it is very nice. I could not drink a lot of this, but it is a great light dessert beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
[Bottle] Pours a cloudy amber color with suspended yeast and a stout off white cap of head on it. Whiskey and yeast in the nose. The taste is of heavy bourbon, vanilla, caramel, green apple, candied plums and figs. Also some light sourness in here. Lingering heavy alcoholic and harsh whiskey notes will likely mellow out with time. A bit thin around the edges. More flavor and more balance than the Cuvee One. It still would benefit from some aging. I was never drunk after drinking a glass of this, but I felt pretty hungover when I woke up the next morning!
