Desverger (1865) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - AUG 22, 2014
Tap at Brewery during RBESG 2014 - black pour with small off white head. Roasted malty and citrus fruity aroma and taste, with some dark dried fruits, very good.

(keg) murky ruby-brown colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of treebark, earth and tobacco, with a hint of roasted malts and burnt coffee powder. flavour is mostly burnt malts and ash, with a faint hint of peat smoke, more tobacco and a light herbal-hoppy finish. light- to medium-bodied with soft carbonation.

Benzai (8145) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - AUG 16, 2014
Draught at the brewery. Dark brown color, small off-white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, way way more fruity than I had expected, slightly roasty in the back of your throat, but otherwise hops and fruitiness. Probably the first dark beer that really tastes like a pale ale. Nicely done.

Scopey (6730) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 11, 2014
Keg at Redchurch during the RBESG 2014. It pours deep brwon with a small white head. The nose is toasty, earth, roasted malt, coffee, dried fruits and candied citrus peel. The taste is bitter, roasted malt, toast, earth, caramel, peppery citrus, coffee and dried fruits with a dry finish. Light body and fine carbonation. Packs a lot of flavour for the abv. Very nice.

On draught at the brewery. Reddish-brown pour with a beige head. Nose of blackberries, citrus and red berries. Dark fruit explosion in the flavour with a hint of strawberry jam. Goes down nicely.

Draft - Dark roast, coffee and hoppy fruit. Deep cloudy dark brown with a decent white head. Roasty, hoppy and coffee in the finish. Although alight body, big flavours that almost put this int Black IPA. Brilliant for the ABV.

Keg at the Brewery. Very dark Coca cola brown. A bit hazy. Tropical fruit, resin and wood pulp in the aroma. Initial mild sweetness gives way to tempering bitterness. The bitter aftertaste hits after a suspenseful quiet in the flavour profile. This is very good but not really a mild.

Saeglopur (309) - Vienna Woods, AUSTRIA - JUL 18, 2014
Bottle from AlesByMail.co.uk. Dark brown body, with a big, frothy, beige head, that leaves a thick lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee, nuts, citrus, orange, red berries, peach. Taste with about the same aromas, great balance of roasted malts and fruity, citric hops. Mouthfeel is medium to light, slick, with a low carbonation and it finishes full and long, again with a great balance of roast and citrus notes. Wow, this is the best beer with such a low alcohol Iíve ever had! Amazing, like a tasty, complex and greatly balanced Black IPA, but with almost third the ABV. Really an accomplished brew!

I will try to restrain the negative comments because as abhorrent as I found the taste this is a genuinely accomplished beer. It pours chestnut brown, with mocha head. Initially mountainous froth but does dissipate into a sudsy 2-finger head. Aroma is a beautiful balance between citrus hops and dark malts. Grapefruit, orange fight with chocolate, coffee roasted malts. Taste is a little smoky, roasted malt driven. Coffee, chocolate, tobacco, while the citrus squeaks. It really is revolting to me. The roasted malt bitterness is dialed right up. Iím just not a fan of the flavor palate but the pronounced flavors in such a low ABV beer is astounding. If you like roasted malts, black IPAís and want lower calorie/low alcohol alternative I cannot imagine a better beer.

Bottle at World Cup Brasil tasting. Dark brown body with a medium light brown head. Hops, citrusfruit. Nice and hoppy. World class mild ale.
