COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rich and chocolatey A proper imperial stout brewed with chocolate & caramel malts, and dark roasted barley. The flavour is immediately rich and chocolatey, giving way to espresso notes. It finishes with a great waft of citrus from a generous blend of our favourite hops.

A very hoppy nose. Pours chocolatey black. A creamy espresso taste and a grassy after palate. Good taste. Nice consistency. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

330 ml bottle.
Pours a black colour with a large, frothy, beige head. Aroma of rich roasted malts, strong coffee, dark chocolate and some ash. Flavour of roasted malts, grapefruit, strong herbs, strong dry dark chocolate and mild but weird glueish off-flavours. Medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel and a roasty, coffee, herbal finish. A rather hoppy stout.

Bottle from Oddbins in London Bridge. Black beer with thick tan head. Hoppy stout aroma. It’s a hoppy stout. Fine, but the hops really rather dominate the rest of the beer. Some roastyness. Yes very hoppy. Depends if you like a hoppy stout. Fine.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with huge, creamy, fully lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Roasty dark malty aroma, even a touch of smoke, herbal hoppy overtones. Taste is bitter hoppy with roasty dark malty and chocolately basis; prickling carbonation, lasting dry, bitter, roasty finish.

(33 cl bottle from Utobeers @ Borough Market; BBD: Presumably December 4th 2013 and not April 12th) A bit of a gusher in the bottle. Pours black with medium, creamy toffee head that leaves lace. Aroma is dark and roasted with notes of licorice and coffee and perhaps a hint of fruity hops. Creamy texture, full body, soft carbonation and a roasted, dry finish. Quite smooth and the palate and drinkable. Flavour is generally dark and roasted but perhaps there’s a bit of fruity hops toward the end - at least I don’t detect much of the ascorbic roastedness that could otherwise be typical for this kind of beer. Quite decent and drinkable.

Pours pitch black color with a huge, thick and off-white head. Aroma is quite hoppy, some goose berry bush, ashy chocolate notes and burnt malts. Flavor of goose berries, grass, ash dry chocolate, bitter cocoa and some wood. High carbonation. Very bitter and dry palate with a harsh bitter finish.

[keg at the Redchurch Brewery tap] Deep black in colour, with a tan-coloured head, the aroma is as expected – roasty and chocolatey, with toasted bread and some slight sweetness. Rich and roasty on the flavour, finishes dry and akin to bitter chocolate. Didn’t get a huge amount of citrus from it, though. Good stuff [07032013]

Opaque black beer, tidy mid tan head. Palate is thin for the style. Mild carbonation. Fairly dry. Bitter and slightly roasty dark malt. An odd note of paint! Very dry finish with hop and roast malt bitterness. Dry and bitter are never are great combination for me and this beer was hard work.
