Cask at the CP&K. It pours deep golden yellow-amber, with a foamy white head. The nose is caramel, toffee and floral. The taste is caramel, toffee, honeycomb, biscuit, hay, straw, floral and light citrus, with a pleasant bitter finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and slightly syrupy mouth-feel. Decent balance. Nice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap (Somewhere in London, RBESG2011 Saturday)
Sounds odd, but the aroma strongly reminded me of ravioli - it’s a definitely a peppery meat. Retronasals more traditional for a modern quality pale ale - peach and grapefruit. Soft palate, carbonation low. Gold, and with a light head. good lacing. Solid pungent hops, but good balance. Very easy and full-bodied bitter. Fun, and not too heavy.

Cask at Southampton Arms. Golden coloured and very translucent. Not much of a head. Aroma is cat pee hops and a bit fruity. Also a bit bbq/campfire and spicy. Strange and interesting smell. Taste is smoky and bitter. Quite strange but quite nice. Fairly thin bodied.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On cask at Southampton Arms - August 19, 2011. Quite a hazy amber-gold, so full it’s hard to judge the head - creamy/frothy white? Quite a hoppy aroma - catty, resin, citrus - with a florally sweet grain backing, a hint of black tea. Taste is hugely bitter, citrus zest, grassy and fairly acidic/catty as well - that just buries the malt completely, and alcohol might be there, but it’s so bitter, could be up to 6%. Almost a perfect cask mouthfeel and body - solid, not thick, somewhat astringent, acidic and dry - long pithy grapefruit finish and linger, really coats the palate - lasting impression, grapefruit with grassy overtones.. Quite robust, a winner for me.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask - The Southampton Arms, London. Pale copper-amber body, bubbly, mostly lasting off-white head. Juicy tropical citrus fruits on the aroma. Tangerine, peach, and a warm bitter grapefruit note. A hefty, fuller mouthfeel than the typical English golden; quite hefty for the style. Soft, medium, chewy body, tongue-coating pale malt sweetness, nicely balanced & moorish with a modest, lingering finishing bitterness.
