3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle Ales by Mail. This poured very flat, see through ruby black appearance. Light blackcurrant and cherry aroma, good full roast flavour, rich bitterness in the finish, with rubbery notes, but a smooth palate throughout. A little yeastiness only adds to this tasty porter

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Thornbridge brewery. Opened with not a noise. Murky, dark brown. No head. I was fearing the worst. However, there’s a nice, nutty, chocolate, fruity, liquorice nose. A hint of damp cardboard, but not really detrimental. Taste is mostly fruity, woody dry. Light bitterness, too. Very soft carbonation. Decent body, though. Finishes with a touch of grassy bitterness.

Bottle (at the same counter): a bit less powerful in nose, maybe some more sweet.

Cask@gallows bird real ale festival 2014. Black, cola- like colour. Really roasty, nice tarry. A bit too dry of a body, feels harsh. Ok though, but nothing too good.

roasty toasty cocoa, medium body, almost non existent carbonation red fruit, bitter slightly plasticky finish. Not what I’m after from a porter.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Half, poured from cask at Fox & Anchor in Smithfield. Good looking with its rosewood coloured body and a fair, fawn-coloured head. Fine aromas of chocolate and caramel. Mixed flavours including dried fruits like figs on a backbone of chocolate malts. Not overly sweet on the swallow. Pleasant porter, easy to drink (London 26.09.2014).
