September 11, 2014 - on cask at Euston Tap. Clear ruby with a beautiful lasting large creamy milky tan head. Nutty aroma - plenty of baker’s chocolate roast, some herbal bittering, smells great. Taste follows, a little less of the bitterness, but the malt has its own bitterness to prevent it being cloying; really creamy mouthfeel, some flavoured coffee too - airy, velvety, a medium-quick finish - some light dry earthy bitterness in the finish; lovely stuff, I could drink a lot of it.

Chocolate brown with a thin but persistent head. Mildly carbonated, medium bodied and creamy. Aroma of coffee liquor come through, with some coffee and cherry. Chocolate, coffee note come through with a bit of morello cherry. A rather good beer!

Bottle Ales by Mail. This poured very flat, see through ruby black appearance. Light blackcurrant and cherry aroma, good full roast flavour, rich bitterness in the finish, with rubbery notes, but a smooth palate throughout. A little yeastiness only adds to this tasty porter

Bottle. Thornbridge brewery. Opened with not a noise. Murky, dark brown. No head. I was fearing the worst. However, there’s a nice, nutty, chocolate, fruity, liquorice nose. A hint of damp cardboard, but not really detrimental. Taste is mostly fruity, woody dry. Light bitterness, too. Very soft carbonation. Decent body, though. Finishes with a touch of grassy bitterness.

Pours black with some off white head. Roasty nose. Quite dry, coffee, liquorice, roasty flavours.

Bottle (at the same counter): a bit less powerful in nose, maybe some more sweet.

On cask at Euston Tap, Euston. Pours black with tan head. Porter thin texture, very easy drinking with hints of cocoa. Decent porter.
