Cask @ Gallows Bird Real Ale Festival 2014

Pours dark brown with a bubbly head. Aroma of roasted malts, nutty notes, hints of spices and caramel. Taste is smooth, slightly roasty and nutty with notes of cocoa and dark chocolate. Finish is smooth, nutty and slightly watery with some nutty notes. A bit untypical porter.

laiti (5439) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 23, 2014
Cask @ Gallows Bird ⅩⅦ Real Ale Festival
Aroma is quite light with some roasted tones and hints of coffee. Flavour is a bit odd with some roasted tones, coffee and English hops. Finishes with more English hops and some toffee. Like a mixture of EPA and porter. A disappointment; this does not reach the level of roastiness I expect from porters.

Vladivostok (227) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - JAN 10, 2014
Somewhere near the bottom of the cask I would guess so can’t comment on the head but a nice coffee aroma followed by quite a robust palate. Quite a bitter finish but a reasonable example of the genre.

On tap at the Holborn Whippet. Nice smoky beer, as deep red as it can get before turning black. Smooth, complex. Herbal hops.

Cask at Euston tap. Clear dark pour pour with a persistent patchy cream good with thick lace. Aroma is subtle choc and berry. Slight chalk. Flavour is balanced nutty malt with roast and earthy hop following. Medium body. Lowish carb. Woody finish. Nicely put together porter.

Gravity dispense at Windsor Locale festival - 22/07/12. Black in colour with a small to medium beige head. Slightly burnt roasted malt nose, coffee & choclate. Tasted as nose but not really picking up the burnt. Also caramel/toffee and a little licquorice. Good higher end medium body but not anywhere near chewy and a great roasted finish. One of the best UK cask porters I’ve had in recent times.

Scopey (6197) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 7, 2012
Cask at CP&K. It pours deep ruby-brown, with a thick beige head. The nose is liquorice, bitter chocolate, roasted malt, charcoal and bonfire. The taste is charcoal, wood, dark fruit, vinous aspect, solid bitterness, roasted malt, bitter chocolate, liquorice, burnt toast and grass, with a long dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Full body and flavoursome. A well crafted porter.
