UPDATED: SEP 13, 2011 Cask at GBBF 2011, deep red-brown with a caffe latte-coloured head and wonderful aromas of coffee, molasses and port. Body is roasty with hints of wine, coffee and grapefruit, plus a faint note of chocolate. The finish is dry and astringent, with plenty of bitterness and hints of red fruit. Brilliant stuff. Re-rate on cask at the Euston Tap, 13/9/11: putting it through a sparkler (why?!?) has knocked a chunk of the flavour out, I think. Still good, but a little disappointing.

Cask conditioned handpump Southampton Arms London. A black beer with an off-white small puddle of head. A slightly sweet and lactic porter. Lots of dry coffee. A good body. Light roast. Very decent.

Hand pulled at the Anchor, Birmingham. Opaque, with a balding cream pate. Smells great - rich, roasty, sweet and deep. Flavour is good: sweet, thinning choc, which holds over the tongue and slightly into the throat. Easy to swig. Very pleasant.

Half, from cask@The White Horse at Parsons Green, London. A near-black body, topped by thin grey-shaded blond top. Roasted dark malts, English licorice and cocoa on the nose. Taste is unsweetned chocolate, dry and soothy malts. Also a certain fruity aciity and rounded roastedness. Noticable bittering hops. Chalky mouthfeel. Dry, dark malty licorice ending. High drinkability. A very nice Porter, indeed.

Dark with a creamy head. Roast aroma - a pleasant and fitting one for a porter. Very roasty in the mouth, leading to a little bit of ashiness, alas. Finish is dry, and has both a touch of liquorice and some stale coffee.

Gravity caskj at the Bree Louise. Pours a rich, red-brown with a fine, filmy head. Lots of dark, roasted malts and mocha in the aroma. Flavor is great, medium sweet, roasty with lots of coffee grounds, charred wood and baking cocoa, along with a leafy bitterness. Medium in body with fine carbonaton. Finishes semi-dry with mild tobacco, plenty of burnt malts and hints of brown sugar. Great beer.
