3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask conditioned at The Southampton Arms, Kentish Town, London. Very dark brown with cream head. Smooth, chocolate flavours with liquorice and a light bitterness. There is a milky note in this plus an oaky, wood character. Very pleasing.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask, Jolly Butchers, Stoke Newington. Dark reddish brown colour with a small tan head. Coffee, malt and fruit protruded the nose. A smilar story in the flavour with some chocolatey notes. Fairly restrained bitterness in the finish. A pretty good fellow.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cask at the Jolly Butches, London on 20 November 2010. Dark ruby with thin off white lacing head. Winter berries in aroma, some sweet coffee notes. Fruit and malt by equal measure in-mouth, a sour note and touches of soapiness. A fairly bitter though fruity finish, moderate in length, on a zingy mouthfeel. Pleasant.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A Mes rate. Cask at the Jolly Butchers.
Glorious mahogany red looks with a thin but lasting beige head. Excellent snout. A pleasing blend of tobacco, leather, good fruity malt that gives an almost port like note and a lick of grassy hops. The flavour follows on in much the same vein. The generous hoppage really gives it some bite. The coffee hint in the aroma really comes centre stage in the mouth. Maybe just a touch soapy in the finish but it’s hard to complain overall. Good hit of cinder toffee in the finish adds a bit more complexity. Good stuff.
