Chestnut coloured best bitter with pale chocolate malt providing coffee aromas and some hazelnut and caramel on the palate, with dark fruit flavours. Citrus notes and an earthy bitterness last into the finish.

@ Kings Arms, London, Waterloo. Mörk kopparfärgad med ett tjockt vitt skum. Dofter av nöt, choklad och frukt. Smakinslag av choklad, karamell och vinäger. Något jordig eftersmak. Gräddig munkänsla.

Cask at the Ale House, Reading. An attractive dark copper colour with a loose cream head; aroma of deeply roasted malts with a hint of coffee grounds; soft and fruity in the mouth with a burnt toffee taste; and a dry earthy finish. Perhaps a touch over done.

Handpump (cask) at Buskers pub Rome-Italy. Grazie Valerio. Pours a dark amber color, hazy/cloudy with a nice frothy foamy head. Nose: ouh boy! Nutty, peanuts, coffee. Such a peculiar bitter nose! Great. Mouth: watery in a good way, nutty, balanced bitterness. Great, different and with a session drinking "different" orientation. Just great! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Handpump @Mad For Beer (Rome). Clear, deep amber appearance, with a decent offwhite head. Aroma is malty, some roasted notes, caramel, moderate hoppy. Flavour is balanced, moderate sweet, then moderate bitter end. Low body, no carbonation. So English, so gentle.

A lot of flavour from a mid-gravity beer, the over-riding taste being that of dark, almost burnt malts. There really isn’t much else to talk about as that dominates the whole thing. A truly brutal beer. Probably somebody’s cup of tea but not mine.

Quite a bitter pungent taste. Very hoppy. Mildly hoppy aroma. Decent dark almost panda cola style appearance. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival on the 3rd October 2014. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear tawny in colour with a thin buff coloured head. Hint of roast malt on the nose but little else of note. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Mixed malt complex gives a sweet maltloaf base with plump raisin fruit notes dominant. There is an earthy mushroom flavour through the slightly bitter aftertaste but not getting the citrus notes though. Finish is malty with vinous notes of raisins still evident in the mouth. An ok session ESB but to be honest, I was expecting a bit more complexity from this ale.
