Seet malt aroma. Nice dark brown color. The honey is a little at the start but the hops come on quickly and sustain through a very dry finish. Quite tasty.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Pours a transparent deep copper amber with a thin, spotty-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet toasty caramel and toffee nose with some light fruity complexity and a doughy yeast. Starts with good fullness and chewy caramel sweetness with a decent hop bitterness and a touch of oak before a drier, bittersweet finish. Pretty true to style and fairly drinkable barleywine.

Could there be anything else in this beer? Hmmm they forgot cocoa nibs, coconut, brett, some fruit, anything else?
Anyway, this beer is actually pretty good. Aroma is mildlyu complex with lots of dark fruit, light alcohol, toffee, earthy spice, hops. The taste also has dark fruit and toffee sweetness with a good amount of earthy woodiness. The hops come through well also. Well balanced, lots going on but it blends pretty nicely. Alcohol and bitter hops, burnt malt finish the beer.

8/27/10. Bomber. Big thanks to Byron at Liquor Loft/Proof for sharing with the crew! Brown pour, mostly red when held to the light. Sweet roasty aroma with a hint of booze. Sweet bitter roasty flavor with a dose of astrigent bitterness. The finish is very burnt bitter. Eh.

Bottle pours copper with a thick khaki head. Aroma is sweet with caramel, brown sugar, peach and some underlying earthiness. Flavor shows the same with oak, nuts, light smoke (maybe even some ash), and a small squeeze of grapefruit. Overall body is moderate to full, moderately sweet, and finishes with a lingering bitterness.

I love experimenting with brown ale but this one adds too much. I don’t know if it is all the different sweeteners added but this is a step too far for me.
