COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 1982 Redhook was born in a converted transmission shop in the Ballard District outside of Seattle, WA. After 28 years of brewing, Redhook is paying homage to its roots by releasing Big Ballard Imperial IPA. Big Ballard has a rich, deep golden and a very assertive hop character that hits you in the nose before reaching your lips. The flavor and aroma are balanced with complex malty undertones. While it has a friendly side, make no mistake - Big Ballard is brewed for diehard IPA fans. Big Ballard pairs well with sausage, cured meats with ground mustard, spicy Mexican or Asian dishes, and barbeque . Available in the Western US year round in both 22 ounce bottles and on draught.

22oz bottle from Windy City Liquors, I think. Up at Lake Jennings just outside of San Diego for a weekend of car camping with my fam and my brotherís fam. Refrteshing and crisp. Strong head and floral nose. Good clean smack finish. I do enjoy me some IIPAs.

Nice amber pour with a thick cream colored head. Nose is bitter hops, very fresh florals, and pine. Not bad on the palate, flavor is faint bitter hops, florals, and a lineup finish. As it warms it gets really bitter.

22 oz. bottle, pours hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of hops, pine, floral notes, orange zest and caramel malt. Flavour of hops, sweet caramel, pine and orange, with a mild bitterness that lingers. Very nice, though I could use a bigger hop punch.

Bottle. Rich amber beer with a cream colored head. Grapefruit aroma. Grapefruit and light pine flavor with light rind. Medium bodied. Good bitterness. Grapefruit and pine lingers with light caramel.

22 oz. bottle into my "beer clean" snifter- Pours a clear orangish golden with a thin white head and good lacework ( is it because of my effort for an extra clean glass), aroma is sweet citrus like grapefruit. The flavor is malty, but not heavy malt ( I hate heavy malt), and hop citrusy, the hops are not over done, if possible. The bitterness lingers long after the swallow, which it should in a Imperial IPA, and the malt is there to compliment the hops, not overpower them. I have to wonder if the average to below average reviews here are because it is a Redhook/Anheuser busch product. Personally I donít think itís too bad.

22oz bottle. Rating #60. Bright orange/dark gold color with a thin white head. Lots of citrus and a bit of pine, but the fruit is the dominant aroma to me. Very smooth, light bitterness and a bit thin, light sweetness and a bit tropical. Not bad stuff. (1401)

1 PT. 6 Oz. Bottle. Pours somewhat clear and amber/orange in color. Citrus notes tingles the nose. The taste is a little different from most IPAís but still quite refreshing.

22oz bottle from BevMo in Pasadena. Pours a light amber with thick cream head that recedes to a thin ring. Aroma is crisp and bitter hops, very fresh and floral, some pine. Flavour is decent bitter hops, floral...but where is the malt? Finish is boozy and unrefined. Certainly hop forward but not as balanced as I would like. Decent.

kryon (1333) - SWEDEN - OCT 14, 2011
pours amber with medium to low head aromas of sweet fruits, fudge... taste is bitter in the beginning going over to more sweetness to end quite abrupt which makes the end taste quite watery. some bitternes left in the mouth afterwards. distinct maltyness a good beer that could use some more complexity

2010 Bottle - Thanks JohnGalt1!! - We closed out the night with this monster, as it should be...Pours a viscous clear orange with a large, frothy off white head...aroma is resiny, bitter hops, caramel and pine...flavour is similar, pithy, lingering bitterness, citrus peel tempered with some sticky malt...pretty not bad!
