COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 1982 Redhook was born in a converted transmission shop in the Ballard District outside of Seattle, WA. After 28 years of brewing, Redhook is paying homage to its roots by releasing Big Ballard Imperial IPA. Big Ballard has a rich, deep golden and a very assertive hop character that hits you in the nose before reaching your lips. The flavor and aroma are balanced with complex malty undertones. While it has a friendly side, make no mistake - Big Ballard is brewed for diehard IPA fans. Big Ballard pairs well with sausage, cured meats with ground mustard, spicy Mexican or Asian dishes, and barbeque . Available in the Western US year round in both 22 ounce bottles and on draught.

Pours a lighter amber color with some cloudiness. Aroma definitely has hops present up front with orange peels, citrus, and malts. Flavor is pretty much the same. Leaves a citrus and hop finish.

Bottle from 4/5/10. Pours with a hazy, nearly neon yellow body and a small white head. Good lace. Aroma of caramel, light citrus zest and pine. Some melon. Taste is light citrus, malt, caramel, plastic, sort of a mess of bitter (but not pleasant) flavors. Some citrus bitter and grassy, some caramel malt presence too. Lively bubbles. Some quinine in the finish (odd, first time I have tasted that in a beer). Meh.

Amber in color with a decent sized off-white head. ARoma is of light grapefruit, orange, and malt. Taste is the same...nothing special, but not bad either.

Pours a copper with a medium white head. Aroma is hops caramel malt. Flavor is herbal bitter hops, malt, caramel, grapefruit. Finish is a bit harsh and bitter, but it seems a bit out of balance and I really don’t dig the hop profile. Still a decent IIPA.

22 oz bottle. Clear light amber with a big rocky beige head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of biscuits, light herbal, citrus and floral hops and lighter caramel. Mostly sweet English malt flavors with a smooth mild bitterness, not much alcohol in the taste but there is a slightly metallic finish. Medium body, mild carbonation and a slightly watery mouth feel. Pretty good for Redhook, but tasted more like a strong ESB to me.

Pours mostly clear golden amber. Aroma of grapefruit, lemon and some copper. Taste is mostly bitter with a medium thin malt presence. Not terrible but lacking hop diversity and character.

Pours a nice clear copper color. Great hop aroma. Not much head retention. Citrusy, a little piney and not really malty. Body is very thin and malts do not add much to the flavor. Nice bitter finish and a pleasant hop aftertaste. Very drinkable for the abv.
