Bottle. Pours a coal black color with a medium tan head with decent lacing as it dissipates. Aroma of roasted malt, ahint of chocolate and a bit of coffee. Flavor is of roasted malt with some chocolate. This is not as sweet as many porters, something that I liked. There is a somewhat bitter aftertaste, but not bad. A tad thin for mouthfeel. Not bad, though. Not bad at all. I’d like to cook a hearty beef stew using this beer in the stock.

12 oz bottle: Aroma is malty with sweet caramel notes intermingled. A light chocolate note and something artificial that I can’t but my finger on. Pours a nice black with a thin tan head that lingers at the top of the glass. Taste is malty, grainy, with a slight metallic taste on the back end. Also, a somewhat of a multigrain bread taste to it. Aftertaste is lightly bitter with a lingering malty overtone that is quite nice. Overall, It’s pretty decent. Get it if you want something decent, but not great instead of BMC. Cheers!

On tap. Not a fan of redhook. A little on the watery side. Peppery malt flavor that was too sweet. Watery finish. Tasted like Dr. Pepper. Faint nutty aroma. Way too light bodied and thin for a porter.

Like many of their beers I feel this is rather generic. Light roasted malt with a touch of dark malty sweetness. Decent carbonation. Not overly robust, just well intentioned and drinkable.

Had this under the nitro name on tap. I thought it was a verysmooth porter. Tasted like guiness only slightly more water than the later. I enjoyed it thourougly and will have another one but probably only on tap.

Very good porter with a fine balance of pepper and coffee noticeable. Sampled at the St. Pete Florida Craft Beer Fest.

(Sample from July 18, 2008 Beer Club Meeting) Clean, dark brown with nice head, very carbonated. Smells of malt. Taste is much like a Fuller’s LP, but more carbonated and watery. Much like a soda, really. Roasted malt flavor, musky and toasty. Malty aftertaste. Better than I expected!

Pours a mostly opaque, dark dark brown with a red tint. Aroma is a little nutty, good full malt aroma. Flavor is crisp, still malty..a little bit bitter from the hops. Tastes like cascade. Not too bad. Solid brew overall.

12 oz. single from John’s Grocery (Iowa City, IA). Made the trip to Illinois on the move home. Poured a deep dark brown with reddish notes on the edges. Small coca cola head that dissipates and a slightly fast speed. Aromas of dark roasted malts and a light sweetness, present but more subdued than I had hoped. Initial taste a bit watery, dark malts with a mellow roasted malt sweetness, notes of bitter cofee and a faint chocolately sweet smoothness. Needs a fuller body. Finishes with that coffee bitterness. A decent brew but very forgettable as a representative of its style.

Pours near black with some red around the edges and a smallish tan head. Aroma is not too strong but of pale, chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is smooth and malty but a little light, with chocolate malt flavor coming through. Not a bad porter.
