1.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Somewhat of a cross between a Foreign Export style stout and a Sweet stout, Redhook again attempts a somewhat crossover beer for it’s Blueline series. Pours a medium black, some brown shades shine through...with an off-tan head. Has a distinct sweet bubble gum aroma followed up by light cocoa powder and a sasparilla-like spice, no distinct hop aromas are present. Immediately it has a slight artificial sweetener type flavor, metallic, some cocoa, some coffee, roast, but all are dominated by an overwhelming sweetness. The medium body finishes out with a lot of carbonation. The lingering aftertaste reminds me of saccharine and alkali sugars. It was pleasant after the first two sips, but the remaining leaves much to be wanted. An unbalanced beer and I am strongly considering dumping the rest of it. I really wish I could agree with BrewDad (review below), but I just don’t care for it.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark black in color, clear with a thin head. Nice dark malts and light chocolaty flavors. Slick with oats and this was very tasty and warmed up nicely. A very good beer by Red Hook.
